The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a full time Band 3 Cardiology ATO to work within an efficient and motivated cardiology department, which encourages teaching and development. The post will be based at The New Victoria ACH, Glasgow.

The post holder has a role in the provision of a highly skilled, professional and busy Cardiac Physiology service outpatient clinics and inpatient services. The post holder will work within several service areas of cardiac physiology and work autonomously within the ECG and monitor service once competent. The post holder

will also provide an assistant role with Exercise Tolerance Testing. Experience within a healthcare setting and performing ECGs is essential.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Location based in New Victoria ACH
  • Permanent Contract
  • Full-time position (36 hours per week)
  • Shift pattern for this post are Monday/Tuesday 9-5, Wednesday 9-4, Thursday 9-5, Friday 8.30-4

Key Responsibilities

  • The recording of ECGs on both inpatients and outpatients and during emergency and non-emergency situations making Medical staff aware of acutely abnormal ECGs and inform staff of unexpected findings.
  • Will work unsupervised, troubleshooting when there is ECG machine complications to accurately record resting ECGs on adult patients. Understand and rectify recording issues using problem solving skills to ensure a technically correct ECG, including better skin preparation, recognising broken/faulty leads and when to call on Medical Physics if required.
  • Will be expected to have a good level of ECG interpretation skills and identify abnormalities that require to be highlighted to Senior Physiologist / Consultant /Nursing staff.
  • Assist in echo room on occasion.
  • Transfer patient from chair onto echo couch, assist with patient in a bed, assist in preparation of patient attaching electrodes allowing monitoring of heart rhythm and attach oxygen to patient from main cylinder if necessary.
  • Enter patient details onto Echo machine, access EchoPac when required and execute ion TrackCare when test completed.
  • Liaise with medical staff regarding timing of tests as workload constantly changing.
  • On a daily basis access TrackCare patient management system.
  • Good level of knowledge and understanding of system enabling efficient planning of workload.
  • Assist patients with telephone enquiries regarding appointments on TrackCare, assist Primary Care and Mental Health team with general enquiries and booking ECG appointments.
  • Downloading all ECGs stored on multiple machines throughout hospital onto patient management system (MUSE). Ensure correct patient demographics to enable the upload of all ECGs onto Portal.
  • Stock maintenance of all rooms ensuring adequate supplies available and highlight if order required. Check new stock, sign off and store appropriately ensuring stock rotation.
  • Clean all equipment and rooms in accordance with Infection Control standard operating procedures.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential

  • SCST Certificate in Electrocardiography or equivalent level of knowledge [broadly SCQF level 7]. This would include ECG recording technique and ECG interpretation.
  • Standard Grade English, Maths and Science, or equivalent
  • Basic IT skills, to include use of Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Experience of working in healthcare in a clinical role; for example as a Clinical Support Worker
  • Empathetic and compassionate
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good team player and able to manage working relationships
  • Able to work unsupervised, whilst recognising own limitations
  • Good verbal communication skills; evidence of skills in supporting those who are distressed, anxious or vulnerable
  • Professional attitude and work ethic

Desirable

  • Willing to undertake SCST certificate in ECG if not already held
  • Previous experience of using a Hospital Information System such as TRAK
  • Previous data-entry experience
