Position Overview: This dual-role position, under the direction of the Head Men’s Basketball Coach and the Athletic Administration, is responsible for: 1. Assisting the Head Coach in coordinating a safe, enthusiastic, and competitive men’s basketball program. 2. Recruiting, supervising, and coaching NAIA student-athletes in accordance with Bethany College, Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC), and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) regulations. 3. Serving as Game Management Assistant for home athletic contests to ensure events are administered efficiently, safely, and in alignment with College values. 4. Fostering both athletic and academic excellence, retention, and good sportsmanship across the student-athlete experience. Campus Housing Opportunity: On-campus housing is available for this position at the deeply discounted rate of $100 per month with payroll deduction. Essential Functions: Men’s Basketball Coaching & Program Operations Assist in administering all phases of an NAIA men's basketball program, including active recruitment of qualified student-athletes adhering to the College recruitment scholarship model. Lead, support, and prioritize student retention, academic progress, and persistence to graduation. Create and foster a positive environment of growth, development, and support for student-athletes both in and out of competition. *(Hostile, demeaning, or derogatory coaching tactics are strictly prohibited).* Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting pre-season, in-season, and post-season conditioning, practices, and competitive games. Assist in formulating competitive game and practice schedules. Coordinate on-campus visits for recruits and their families. Arrange team travel, lodging, and meal logistics. Prepare and manage team records, travel expense statements, and trip itineraries. Lead community engagement and service-learning opportunities for the men’s basketball program. Plan and lead individual development and goal-setting meetings with student-athletes. Assist in monitoring facility safety conditions, equipment inventory, and maintenance under the program's jurisdiction. Actively participate in fundraising initiatives for the basketball program and the Department of Athletics. Game Management & Event Administration Serve as the designated Game Manager for assigned home athletic contests across various sports. Oversee game-day environments, crowd control, and fan behavior to ensure a safe, welcoming, and positive atmosphere for student-athletes, officials, and spectators. Prepare facilities and locker rooms for visiting teams and game officials; provide escort and hospitality for officials. Support game-day operations staff and coordinate student workers (scheduling, task assignment, and training). Assist with concessions operations, including inventory, purchasing, volunteer/staff scheduling, and secure cash box balancing and bank deposits. Departmental Collaboration & Professional Standards Maintain strict adherence to all Bethany College, KCAC, and NAIA rules, regulations, and spending/budgeting policies. Participate actively in departmental meetings and contribute ideas to enhance operational efficiency. Collaborate professionally with campus academic divisions, student development, admissions, and administrative offices. Engage in ongoing professional development clinics, workshops, and conventions. Qualifications: Required: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and coaching experience. Demonstrated understanding of NAIA philosophy and the role of athletics in a faith-based, liberal arts environment. Excellent grammar, spelling, and writing abilities Microsoft Office, computer knowledge, and knowledge of office equipment Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences, including students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, administration, and the community-at-large Ability to handle multiple projects/assignments concurrently and be very results-oriented Highly motivated and works well both independently and in a team environment Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality Preferred: Collegiate playing or coaching experience (Men’s Basketball). Experience with event management, athletic game administration, or facility oversight. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish (or conversational knowledge). Physical Skills and Abilities: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, and demonstrate basketball fundamentals/drills as needed during practice sessions. Walking primarily on indoor court surfaces and athletic grounds for extended periods. Reaching above shoulder height, bending below the waist, and lifting/moving equipment up to 40–50 lbs using proper lifting techniques. Good hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and visual acuity to evaluate athletic performance, use office computer equipment, and manage game-day setups. Working Conditions: Work Location: Athletic Complex & Bethany College Campus (Lindsborg, KS). Work Schedule: Irregular and extended hours, including frequent evenings, weekends, and holidays according to the athletic competition schedule. Travel: Frequent conference-wide (KCAC/NAIA) and regional travel required for games, tournaments, and recruiting. Environment: Indoor office and gymnasium environments with ambient temperatures, as well as occasional outdoor event oversight with exposure to varying seasonal weather elements, noise, and crowd conditions.
