Automation & Instrumentation Manager (Owner's Team, Upcoming Capital Project (Europe))

Ouda is recruiting an experienced Automation & Instrumentation Manager for an upcoming long-term assignment on a major industrial investment project in Europe. You will work on the owner’s side, representing the client’s interests and making sure the project is well defined and delivered to a high standard.

About the assignment

We are preparing for an assignment with one of our clients, who is planning a significant investment at an existing industrial site in Europe. The client, the exact location and further project details will be shared with shortlisted candidates. The assignment is expected to start at the end of 2026 and run for several years, and is subject to final confirmation.

You will be part of the client’s owner’s team, a group of senior specialists who work alongside the engineering contractor and make sure the design and execution meet the client’s needs. In your role, you will be the client’s go-to expert for automation and instrumentation.

Your role

• Lead the automation and instrumentation discipline on the owner’s side and act as the client’s technical authority in your area.
• Review and challenge the contractor’s design, and approve key deliverables.
• Follow up the contractor’s progress, quality and costs, and raise issues before they become problems.
• Bring operations and maintenance perspectives into the design so the finished plant works well in practice.
• Spend time on site, verifying existing conditions and resolving technical questions with local stakeholders.
• Take part in procurement and technical discussions with suppliers.

Your technical scope

• You will be responsible for both automation and instrumentation, including control and safety systems, field instrumentation and analyzers, and related OT and cyber security topics.

What we are looking for

• A degree (BSc or higher) in automation, instrumentation or electrical engineering, or another relevant field.
• Several years of experience leading automation and instrumentation in large industrial or energy-sector capital projects.
• Solid hands-on knowledge of DCS and SIS projects, functional safety (IEC 61511), OT cyber security (IEC 62443) and field instrumentation.
• Experience working with EPC or EPCM contractors, and the confidence to hold them to agreed scope and quality.
• Experience from the owner’s or client’s side of projects, and involvement in commissioning, are strong advantages.
• A strong safety mindset and a practical, solution-oriented way of working.
• Good communication skills in multinational teams and fluent English
