Backend Engineer

About the Role

Join a six-person engineering team building the agentic backend powering an AI-driven healthtech platform that automates clinical administrative workflows for healthcare organizations. Your work will directly accelerate patient access to care and drive rapid customer onboarding, the company's primary growth lever, at scale across millions of patients.

What You'll Do

• Architect and deploy AI-native backend systems that process high-volume clinical data via API.

• Build reliable, secure agentic infrastructure capable of handling sensitive clinical information at scale.

• Own and drive the technical evolution of critical backend infrastructure.

• Integrate direct customer feedback to shape product iterations end-to-end.

• Scale systems and architecture to support rapid customer onboarding and company growth.

What We're Looking For

• 0 to 1 years of professional backend software development experience.

• Strong proficiency in Python.

• Proficiency in at least one compiled or systems programming language such as Go, Rust, C, or C++.

• Infrastructure-as-code experience using Terraform or a comparable tool.

• Familiarity with distributed systems concepts and their practical implementation.

• Understanding of prompt engineering and working with AI or LLM-based systems.

• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) or major cloud platforms.

• Experience with database design and optimization.

• Demonstrated ability to write testable, maintainable, production-quality code.

• Experience debugging and optimizing performance-critical code.

• Comfortable with collaborative development workflows using version control (e.g. Git).

• A strong public GitHub profile with active, meaningful contributions or open-source work.

• Currently employed at an established company.

• Genuine interest in building impactful products in the healthcare space.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $120,000 to $250,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is available.

Location

On-site, five days per week in San Francisco, CA, United States.
