Backend Engineer

About the Role

You will join a six-person engineering team building AI-native backend systems that automate administrative clinical workflows for healthcare organizations. The work directly accelerates patient access to care and powers the customer onboarding pipeline that is the company's primary growth lever. This is a high-ownership role at an early stage where your contributions will shape the product end-to-end.

What You'll Do

• Architect and deploy AI-native backend systems that process high-volume clinical data via API.

• Build reliable, secure agentic infrastructure capable of handling sensitive clinical information at scale.

• Own critical backend infrastructure and drive its technical evolution over time.

• Scale systems and architecture to support rapid customer onboarding and company growth.

• Integrate direct customer feedback into upcoming product iterations, shaping features end-to-end.

What We're Looking For

• Up to 1 year of professional backend software development experience, with strong fundamentals and a demonstrated ability to build and deliver production systems.

• Proficiency in Python (required).

• Familiarity with at least one compiled or systems programming language such as C, C++, Rust, or Go.

• Infrastructure-as-code experience using Terraform or a similar tool (required).

• Understanding of prompt engineering and working with large language models.

• Experience with distributed systems concepts and implementation.

• Strong GitHub contribution profile with active, meaningful commits and a commitment to testable, maintainable code.

• Experience debugging and optimizing performance-critical code.

• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) or cloud platforms is a plus.

• Experience with database design and optimization is a plus.

• Currently employed at an established company.

• Genuine passion for building impactful products in healthcare.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $120,000 to $250,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is available.

Location

On-site, five days per week in San Francisco, CA.
