Job Summary

We deliver a comprehensive range of specialist cardiac services, including transplantation and VAD support, adult congenital heart disease, inherited cardiac conditions and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

In this role, you'll contribute to and support a wide range of invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures within our four state-of-the-art catheter laboratories and outpatient department.

Procedures Include

  • Complex device implantation, follow-up and extraction (Pacemakers, ICDs, CRT, S-ICD, leadless and conduction system pacing)
  • Electrophysiology studies and ablations
  • Simple and complex echocardiography, including TOE, ACHD, LVAD, HCM, ESE/DSE
  • Structural heart interventions (TAVI, MitraClip, TEER, valvuloplasty, ASD/VSD/PFO closure, left atrial appendage occlusion)
  • Cardiac catheterisation and PCI
  • Non-invasive testing (CPEX, exercise testing, and ambulatory monitoring)

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Cardiac Physiologist/Scientist who is keen to learn, develop, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care within our dynamic cardiology service.

You Will

  • Work as an independent practitioner in core cardiac diagnostic and interventional procedures, demonstrating sound clinical judgment and technical competence.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and teamwork skills, working effectively within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Have the opportunity to multi-skill across a range of cardiac sub-specialties, gaining valuable experience in advanced procedures and emerging technologies.
  • Be expected to participate in the departmental on-call rota once deemed competent.
  • Occasionally support cross-site working to meet service needs.

Essential Qualifications/experience

  • BSc in Clinical Physiology or Healthcare Science (Cardiac Physiology), MSc Cardiac Science or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and training.
  • Registration with ACHS or HCPC is desirable.

Job Description

Clinical areas of involvement include:

  • Non-invasive testing, including echocardiography, cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPEX), exercise tolerance testing, and ambulatory monitoring

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Clinical Physiology / Healthcare Science (Cardiac Physiology) / Masters in Cardiac Clinical Science or equivalent academic achievement ratified by RCCP/AHCS
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and proficiency in accordance with RCCP/AHCS/HCPC guidelines

Desirable

  • Registration with RCCP (Registration Council Clinical Physiologists)/AHCS (Academy of Healthcare Science) or HCPC (Health & Care Professions Council
  • Immediate Life Support Qualification
  • BHRS Certificate in Devices/EP or working towards.

Experience

Essential

  • Good basic knowledge of Cardiology
  • Experience of clinical practice through on the job experience or clinical placements.
  • Knowledge of Cardiac Implantable Device testing and programming in implant and follow up including remote monitoring
  • Knowledge of interventional procedures including PCI, PPCI, cardiac catheterisation.
  • Knowledge, experience and awareness of other areas of Cardiac Physiology including exercise, ambulatory monitoring, echocardiography and intervention
  • Knowledge of professional standards and national guidance surrounding area of expertise

Desirable

  • Post qualification experience in Invasive/Non-Invasive Cardiology
  • Knowledge of complex procedures including structural intervention (TAVI, PFO/ASD/VSD Closure, Mitral Valvuloplasty and Electrophysiology)

Additional Criteria

Essential

  • Numerate and able to undertake scientific calculations with and without the use of aides
  • Ability to work effectively within a team
  • Manage workload effectively when the workload is unpredictable and there are competing demands (medical emergency)
  • Manual dexterity to undertake highly specialised techniques
  • Computer literacy and skills in IT systems to include Microsoft office
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills both written and oral.
  • Logical thought processes and the ability to solve problems and plan remedial action
  • Effective organisational, planning and time management skills
  • Ability to train and educate other professionals and students
  • Ability to manage emergency situations including resuscitation and defibrillation
  • Able to support the 24 hours on call service
  • Physically able to move equipment, handle patients and respond to emergency situations including the ability to perform CPR

  • Ability to participate in 7 days working
