Job Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and passionate individual to join our Maternity and Gynaecology research team within the Research and Innovation (R&I) Department at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. This is a 12 month fixed term position that provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to clinical research trials that have the potential to change and shape future clinical practice. Our team provides support to participants throughout pregnancy from the antenatal to the post-natal period within the scope of the clinical trials protocol. You need to be able to work autonomously and manage a case load of patients. The successful candidate will follow participants throughout their entire research journey, from recruitment until close out, so building able to build a rapport with participants is essential.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

The post holder will support the delivery of high quality clinical research trials within the Maternity and Gynaecology portfolio, ensuring all activity is conducted in line with study protocols, regulatory requirements and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Coordinating and delivering research studies from set-up, including feasibility and site initiation activities, to study close out.
  • Identifying, screening, and consenting participants in accordance with ethical and legal standards
  • Delivering study visits and procedures and monitoring participant safety, including reporting adverse events
  • Collecting and maintaining accurate research data and documentation to audit-ready standards
  • Acting as a key point of contact for participants, clinical teams, and study sponsors.
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to embed research into clinical care
  • Contributing to governance, audit, and the promotion of research across the Trust
  • Clinical aspects of the role will include phlebotomy, processing of blood specimens, drug administration and clinical observations.

The post holder will work both independently and as part of the research team, ensuring high standards of patient care and research delivery.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife on the NMC register
  • Relevant degree or equivalent in Midwifery

Desirable

  • Health care management / leadership qualification.

Experience

Essential

  • Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
  • Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff
  • Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD
  • Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff
  • Experience of mentoring undergraduate students
  • Evidence of ability to lead /coordinate a shift /area of department
  • Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice.

Desirable

  • Evidence of Research knowledge
  • Experience of clinical trials/ studies/ research coordination
