Job Summary

The quality of a patient's experience is shaped by more than clinical care. Safe environments, responsive support services and effective patient flow all rely on strong operational leadership. At Heartlands, we are looking for a Facilities Operations Manager to lead our Housekeeping & Patient Portering Services and play a key role in delivering high-quality services that support patient care every day.

This is a significant leadership opportunity within Facilities at a time when the NHS continues to focus on service improvement, operational effectiveness and workforce engagement. We are looking for an experienced facilities leader with substantial operational management experience, ideally within the NHS, who is comfortable working across both strategic and operational agendas. You will bring expertise in service delivery, people leadership, change management, budget oversight & quality improvement, alongside the ability to build productive relationships across clinical & non-clinical teams.

Our culture is grounded in being Kind, Connected and Bold. That means creating an environment where staff feel supported, working collaboratively across services and being confident in driving improvements that make a genuine difference. The role offers the opportunity to shape services, develop teams and contribute to our vision of building healthier lives.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

You will provide leadership for Housekeeping and Patient Portering Services at Heartlands, ensuring services are safe, effective, compliant and aligned with organisational priorities. You will be responsible for operational performance, service quality, workforce management, risk management and financial oversight.

Working with the Head of Facilities, Associate Director of Facilities, clinical teams and operational colleagues, you will contribute to business planning, service development and the implementation of improvement initiatives. You will oversee performance against local & national standards, manage budgets, monitor risks & incidents and ensure robust operational policies and business continuity arrangements are maintained.

A key part of the role is supporting & developing people. You will provide visible leadership to managers and frontline teams, lead recruitment & workforce planning activity, support staff engagement & quality improvement programmes and ensure teams have access to training and development.

We are seeking a leader who can analyse complex information, influence change, manage competing priorities and work effectively with a range of stakeholders. You should be educated to degree level, hold membership of a recognised facilities management institute and have significant experience of managing large, complex FM services, organisational change, budgets and people. A commitment to continuous improvement, patient-focused services & collaborative leadership is essential.
