Job Summary:
The person in this position supervises capital accounting, grant accounting and project billing within the finance team
Responsibilities:
- Execute and/or manage capital accounting functions including budgeting, forecasting, fixed asset transactions, account reconciliations, and adherence to internal controls and policies
- Support the company’s external reporting processes, including the annual audit and quarterly reviews of the consolidated financial statements and other requests for services performed by the company’s external auditors
- Continually assess effectiveness and efficiency of accounting operations, identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement as well as establishing and evaluating appropriate observable metrics
- Support the company’s mergers-and-acquisitions activities, including participating in due diligence activities and ensuring effective integration of accounting processes
- Support internal audit activities within sphere of influence
- Train and assist staff
- Manage other projects and perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills
- Transportation industry experience, particularly railroad, preferred
- Good communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with all levels
Required Education and Credentials:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA or MBA preferred
- A minimum of seven to ten years of related experience; US public-company experience preferred
Employment Requirements:
- Pre-employment physical, hearing, and vision medical review

- Background screening including conflict of interest, criminal, and motor vehicle driving history
Relocation:
Must live within 50 miles of assigned location or be willing to relocate. Relocation assistance available for this position.
