At AFSG, you will be the financial expert and trusted advisor for several groups within Agrotechnology and Food Sciences. Your tasks and responsibilities

As a Business Controller, Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Acting as the point of contact within the Finance & Control department for controlling activities such as budgeting, forecasting, multi-year financial planning, liquidity planning, and financial reporting to the various groups;
  • Serving as a trusted financial advisor to several groups and actively contributing to financial decision-making;
  • Analysing financial and project-related risks, supporting improvement initiatives, and providing recommendations;
  • Assessing investments and major grant applications;
  • Contributing to cost price calculations for rate setting and external audits;
  • Advising management on strategic and long-term policy and decision-making.

In Addition, You Will

  • Actively collaborate with your direct colleagues and contribute to the exchange of professional knowledge and the continued development of team spirit;
  • Contribute to the further professionalisation of the Finance & Control department within an organisation that makes a significant contribution to important societal challenges.

About The Finance & Control Department

Our Finance & Control department is a professional business partner to AFSG and is committed to quality, integrity, and excellent service. We do this by providing accurate, reliable, and integrated financial information and advice. In this way, we actively contribute to excellent research and effective business operations.

Where you will work

The Finance & Control department of the Agrotechnology & Food Sciences Group consists of more than 20 finance professionals and is organised into three teams: Business Control, Project Control, and Sales & Acquisition Control.

You will work closely with Business Controllers, Project Controllers, and a Financial Controller. Together, you share responsibility for the financial management and internal processes of our institute while actively contributing to developments across Wageningen University & Research.

Your qualities

You Bring

  • A higher professional education (HBO+) or university level of working and thinking, with a background in finance, economics, or a related field;
  • Extensive experience in Business Control within a large, complex, and project-driven organisation;
  • A customer-focused and hands-on approach, combined with strong communication skills;
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to connect people and perspectives;
  • A results-oriented, solution-focused, creative, proactive, and initiative-taking attitude;
  • Experience with Power BI is a strong advantage.
  • Fluent proficiency in Dutch, both spoken and written.

You are analytically strong, have well-developed advisory skills, and possess a strong level of organisational awareness. Building connections comes naturally to you, both within your team and with management. You have a strong sense of responsibility and are comfortable working independently.

In our international working environment there is an increasing amount of communication in English. For this position it is about English language level C1 and Dutch language level C1.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between €3,554.- and €6,471.- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 10/ 11). Initially, we will offer you a one‑year contract, which—if there is mutual enthusiasm—will be extended to a permanent contract. The position will be graded in salary scale 10 or 11, depending on your level of experience and qualifications. The position is for 1.0 FTE.
