Job Description: Sets the vision and strategy for patient care and clinical services through effective and productive partnership in the Triad (nursing, provider, and operations) leadership structure. Assures continuous improvement of patient and clinical care, experience of care, and safety in all facilities. Maximizes the value contribution of the clinical support team with a population health and risk-based payment focus, while simultaneously understanding and operationalizing highest quality and most efficient/cost-effective clinical support practice within the context of traditional fee-for-service models. Provides clinical leadership and consultation to the various business divisions of the region (e.g., IS, Finance, Facility Operations). Responsible, in conjunction with the Triad Leadership team, for driving execution of strategic initiatives and key performance indicators to enable best-in-class performance in the core domains of safety, quality, patient experience, access, engaged caregivers, stewardship, and growth. This leader must reside in the greater Salt Lake City area. Essential Functions Leads, directs, and defines accountability for the operations and outcomes of nursing, clinical programs, and clinical services across acute and ambulatory care. Participates in development of the enterprise nursing strategic plan and assures initiatives are implemented and sustained. Directs the vision and strategy for regional nursing operations in alignment with enterprise nursing operations. Develops and supports implementation of shared goals. Analyze data trends and evaluate current and future tactics to deliver on KPIs and metrics. Leads patient experience implementation efforts. Directly responsible for regional patient quality and safety outcomes, including nursing sensitive indicators. Ensures and drives standardization of clinical best practice, patient and caregiver safety, and quality. Drives the culture of bedside caregiver empowerment and leadership accountability to drive best-in-class patient outcomes, caregiver safety, and caregiver engagement. Operationalizes the elements of the Nursing Professional Practice Model. Collaborates closely with market, local and service line leaders to assure provision of safe, quality, efficient, and multidisciplinary care through effective, high-performing care models. Improves clinical care by developing clinical partnerships across the enterprise and outside the organization with clinical and organizational affiliates and partners. Represents Intermountain Health locally, regionally, and nationally through healthcare and professional organizations. Works closely with colleges of nursing and school training community health workers, care guides, care managers, and medical assistants to secure the pipeline addressing workforce needs. Collaborates with HR to plan for and assure stable nursing and clinical support staff teams. Coordinates with Care Management on all clinical support team activities to assure superior outcomes and fiscal accountability. Partners with CMO and other key leaders to foster and enhance relationships between clinical support staff and physicians/APPs. Provides leadership and support in development, selection, implementation, evaluation, and integration of healthcare technology and information management systems that support patient care. Partners with nursing leadership across Intermountain Health through shared governance councils and leadership meetings. May participate in regional or community boards, ensuring robust communication regarding initiatives and outcomes. Travels to care sites across the region to provide on-site collaboration, leadership, and partnership. Bachelor’s or master’s degree must be in Nursing. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified. Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice. Progressive experience in a matrixed healthcare system or hospital of at least 300 beds. Demonstrated outcomes in quality management, patient safety and experience, caregiver engagement and care management. Experience in driving market growth, optimizing performance, and delivering best-in-class results. Experience in leading clinical areas, partnering with physicians, developing clinical strategies, implementing operational plans, and measuring and driving outcomes. Demonstrated experience with change management and the ability to provide leadership in the adaptation and implementation of new processes and/or technology. Preferred Qualifications Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Demonstrated experience as a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in a complex, multi-hospital healthcare environment. Demonstrated experience as a CNO in a region or multi-site healthcare environment. Senior-level ambulatory and/or community-based experience, including prior multi-facility experience. Experience working with risk-based pay models, PMPM management, pay-for-performance funding mechanisms, and/or payer operations. Experience in achieving Magnet designation. Deep understanding of care management and population health management principles. With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Board-approved goals.
