Job Overview
We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for either an experienced or newly qualified CBT Therapist or Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to enjoy a variety of clinical work and professional development opportunities in the South East Essex ARMSp (At Risk Mental State) service.
ARMS services are newly developed primary care community mental health services within EPUT which work specifically with young people and adults aged 14-35 who are considered to be at risk of developing psychosis. The SE Essex ARMS service is a friendly and committed multidisciplinary team working in the community of SE Essex (including Rochford, Southend, Castlepoint). The team offers initial assessments and person-centred psychosocial interventions, which are aimed at reducing distress, improving social and occupational functioning, and preventing the development of more severe mental health difficulties, including first episode psychosis.
As a specialist mental health service, the ARMS service provision is based on NICE-recommendations which include comprehensive psychological assessment and intervention for subthreshold psychotic experiences (e.g. voice hearing, paranoia, unusual beliefs) or co-existing mental health difficulties (e.g. depression, anxiety, emerging personality disorder, substance misuse, post-traumatic stress disorder).
Main duties of the job
ARMS provides a service aimed at identifying and supporting those at risk of developing psychosis symptoms - an ARMS (At Risk Mental State) service. This service is separate to, but has close links with existing Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) service in SE Essex.
We are looking to recruit either a Band 7 CBT Therapist or Band 7 Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join our Psychological Services team and deliver a psychological service to clients identified as having an At Risk Mental State (ARMS), based in SE Essex. This would include delivering NICE-recommended interventions for unusual experiences or co-existing mental health problems (e.g. depression, anxiety, emerging personality disorder, substance misuse) such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, etc. A key other responsibility would include conducting comprehensive assessments to develop a psychological formulation of the service user’s needs. This may include the use of psychometric tools such as Comprehensive Assessment of At Risk Mental States (CAARMS).
