Mercy Flights, Inc.
Chief Financial Officer
The Organization
Mercy Flights, Inc. is a not-for-profit mobile healthcare organization headquartered in Medford, Oregon, serving communities across southern Oregon and northern California. Founded in 1949 by George Milligan, an air traffic controller and pilot from Medford, Mercy Flights became the nation’s first civil air ambulance and has since grown into a highly respected provider of integrated air and ground medical transport, critical care transport, mobile integrated healthcare, and community-based emergency medical services.
For more than 75 years, Mercy Flights has remained deeply connected to the community it serves. Today, the organization operates a diverse fleet that includes ground ambulances, support vehicles, Mobile Integrated Health vehicles, helicopters, and fixed-wing aircraft. Its services include ground ambulance response, fixed-wing and rotor-wing air medical transport, critical care transport, Mobile Integrated Healthcare, community health initiatives, EMS training, and a longstanding membership program.
Mercy Flights continues to be defined by innovation. In 2016, the organization became one of Oregon’s first Mobile Integrated Healthcare providers, bringing medical and social support directly into patients’ homes. In 2026, Mercy Flights is continuing that trajectory through In-Home Emergency Care in partnership with instED, a model designed to deliver rapid in-home clinical care for eligible 9-1-1 callers while reducing unnecessary emergency department visits.
As a mission-driven organization, Mercy Flights combines clinical excellence, operational readiness, community trust, and a pioneering spirit. The organization remains committed to saving and enhancing lives while advancing new models of mobile healthcare.
The Position
Chief Medical Officer
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team and provide strategic financial leadership for Mercy Flights. This executive will oversee all fiscal operations of the organization, including finance, accounting, financial planning and analysis, revenue cycle, reimbursement, budgeting, capital planning, banking and lender relationships, financial reporting, and related corporate fiscal services. The CFO also serves as the organization’s Privacy Officer and provides executive oversight for Information Technology and Telecommunications.
This is a highly visible, enterprise-level leadership role with responsibility for a budget of approximately $35 million and oversight of Finance, Revenue Cycle, IT, and Privacy Officer responsibilities. The position has approximately six direct or indirect FTEs within the core reporting structure, plus three IT resources through an outsourced partner.
The search follows the planned transition of Mercy Flights’ current CFO, who is relocating out of state for personal family reasons. The current CFO has provided the organization with meaningful advance notice and continuity support, creating the opportunity for Mercy Flights to conduct a thoughtful and comprehensive search for the right long-term financial leader.
The incoming CFO will join Mercy Flights at an important inflection point. The organization is building on a pioneering 77-year history while strengthening the business infrastructure required for future growth, evolving reimbursement models, payer partnerships, mobile integrated healthcare expansion, and long-term sustainability. This is not a narrow finance role. It is a strategic and hands-on executive leadership opportunity for a healthcare finance leader who can operate with equal credibility in the boardroom, with the CEO and executive team, and inside the day-to-day operational details of finance, accounting, revenue cycle, payer contracting, and organizational performance.
