Chief of Police
The City of Malvern, Arkansas, is seeking an exceptional, progressive law enforcement executive to serve as its next Chief of Police. Nestled in the beautiful foothills of the Ouachita Mountains, Malvern is a community where natural beauty, small-town character, and a strong sense of belonging come together. Home to approximately 10,000 residents, Malvern is a proud and welcoming community that values its first responders and takes pride in the people who serve it.
Located in the heart of Arkansas's beautiful Diamond Lakes region, Malvern offers an exceptional quality of life surrounded by the natural beauty of the Ouachita River and some of Arkansas's most scenic lakes, including Lake Catherine, DeGray Lake, Lake Hamilton, Lake Ouachita, and Lake Greeson. With the Ouachita Mountains as a backdrop, residents enjoy countless opportunities for boating, fishing, hiking, camping, and exploring the great outdoors, making Malvern a wonderful place to live, work, and become part of a close-knit community.
As the department's chief executive officer, the Chief of Police is not a Civil Service position and answers directly to the Mayor, with full administrative and operational command over the department. Malvern's rank-and-file officers are governed by a Civil Service Commission, ensuring that the Chief leads a team built on professional merit, rigorous standards, and employee retention.
We are seeking a Chief who understands that effective law enforcement begins with a genuine connection to the community. We are looking for an approachable, visible, and trusted leader who will build relationships with our residents and be present in the places where our community comes together.
The ideal candidate will bring strong municipal leadership and budgeting experience, along with a demonstrated commitment to community-oriented policing. More importantly, we are looking for someone with a proven history of being actively involved in the community, someone who listens, participates, builds trust, and works alongside our schools, neighborhoods, businesses, and residents.
We are looking for a Chief who does more than simply serve our community—we want someone who becomes a meaningful part of it. A leader who is invested in our people, committed to our future, and dedicated to the quality of life in our community, demonstrating that commitment through their actions every day.
Essential Job Functions:
Interested and qualified applicants should submit a professional resume, cover letter, and copies of all current law enforcement certifications to the Clerk/Treasurer's Office. Applications will be accepted through any of the following methods:
