$124 914.40 - $134 524 + Superannuation + Salary Packaging and benefits

FORENSICARE

Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria.

Forensic mental health is a specialist area within the mental health service system. The services provided by Forensicare address the needs of offenders experiencing mental health issues, the mental health sector, the justice sector and the general community.

The primary focus of this work is on providing clinical services for the effective assessment, treatment and management of forensic patients and clients and people with a mental illness who have offended or are at risk of offending. We are committed to providing Recovery-orientated forensic mental health services in which the principles of hope, social inclusion, personalised care and genuine collaboration are fundamental to practice.

These services are delivered through three streams, inpatient services at Thomas Embling Hospital, community services through the Community Forensic Mental Health Service and prison based services at several locations. Forensicare provides a comprehensive research program and specialist training and professional education for our staff and mental health and associated fields.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Clinical Coordinator – DPFC Outpatients provides leadership and management during each shift, ensuring the effective functioning of the multidisciplinary team. The role is responsible for the timely delivery of high-level mental health assessment and care to individuals with who have been referred to the specialist outpatient mental health service at DPFC. The Clinical Coordinator - DPFC Outpatients triages and coordinates all patient care in Outpatients, ensuring safe, clinically informed decision making.

In addition to operational leadership, the Clinical Coordinator provides ongoing support to the Program Manager by overseeing staff resource allocation, monitoring performance, and supporting professional development across the team. The position delivers advanced clinical advice, supervision, and guidance to staff, fostering high-quality forensic mental health practice. The Clinical Coordinator- DPFC Outpatients will be required to work collaboratively with DPFC staff and other key stakeholders to maintain consistent, evidence-based care within a complex custodial environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Role model Forensicare’s organisational values and behaviours in all interactions.
  • Role model Forensuicare’s principles and philosophy of care provision, using best clinical practice frameworks such as Recovery-oriented care and Trauma Informed Care.
  • Role model and promote effective and collaborative working relationships with stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with Forensicare policies and procedures, Commissioners requirements, local operationg procedures and other relevant legislation, standards and ethical codes of practice.
  • Contribute to the training and development for Forensicare staff, and stakeholders
  • Promote and support a work environment that is free of harassment, bullying and intimidation.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Team Business Plan, ensuring
    strong links and contribution to the organisation’s Strategic Plan.

ABOUT YOU

  • Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery and contemporary forensic mental health practice.
  • Skilled in independently triaging referrals and conducting comprehensive assessments of prisoners with mental impairment.
  • Proven ability to plan, deliver, and evaluate therapeutic interventions, counselling, and programs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including staff coordination, resource management, and working effectively in complex environments.
  • Competent in the use of computer systems and clinical documentation tools.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the values and objectives of Forensicare and the principles of forensic mental health care.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Hold a Postgraduate Diploma (Nursing Practice Mental Health) or equivalent and possess current registration with AHPRA.
  • Thorough understanding and demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery, including the modelling and leading of recovery focused initiatives.
  • A sound knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, including high level knowledge of clinical practices to build strong connections, cooperation and collaboration.
  • Demonstrate experience translating knowledge of current Australian College of Mental Health Nursing standards of practice, contemporary forensic mental health nursing practices and relevant legislation into practice, coupled with significant post registration experience in a similar role.
