Clinical Director – Veterinary Surgeon
Salary: £75,000 – £85,000 pro rata + performance-related bonus
Part-time considered – minimum 3 days per week
The Opportunity:
Are you an experienced small animal Veterinary Surgeon ready to take the next step into clinical leadership?
We are looking for a Clinical Director to lead a thriving veterinary practice, providing clinical leadership, supporting the development of the team and helping shape the future direction of the practice.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced vet looking to step into their first leadership position, or an established clinical leader seeking a new challenge within a supportive veterinary network.
You’ll have a high degree of local autonomy, giving you the opportunity to shape the practice around your team, patients and local community, with the backing and support of a wider organisation.
The Role:
As Clinical Director, you will play a key role in both the clinical and commercial success of the practice. You will be responsible for:
- Leading and maintaining high, evidence-based clinical standards across the practice.
- Setting the strategic direction of the practice and supporting its continued commercial growth.
- Improving operational efficiency and identifying opportunities for ongoing development.
- Creating a positive, supportive practice culture where every team member can thrive.
- Providing clinical guidance, mentoring and support to Veterinary Surgeons, RVNs and nursing teams.
- Supporting colleagues with their CPD, training and professional development.
- Overseeing clinical governance and driving continuous quality improvement.
- Managing complex medical cases and performing a broad range of surgical procedures.
- Building strong and lasting relationships with clients and supporting the team to deliver an excellent client experience.
- Helping to grow the practice's client base and strengthen its position within the local community.
About You:
We’re looking for a confident and compassionate Veterinary Surgeon who is ready to make a real difference through clinical leadership. You will ideally have:
- RCVS registration and experience working within small animal general practice.
- Confidence in consulting, diagnostics and a broad range of soft-tissue surgical procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine passion for clinical excellence and team development.
- Previous leadership, mentoring or coaching experience.
- Experience as a VetGDP Adviser would be advantageous.
- Previous experience of the business and operational side of veterinary practice would be desirable.
- The ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, clients and the wider veterinary community.
- A proactive and ambitious approach to developing both yourself and those around you.
Above all, we’re looking for someone who wants to combine high-quality clinical care with strong leadership, helping a supportive team to achieve its full potential.
What’s on Offer?
- £75,000 – £85,000 salary, pro rata.
- Additional performance-related scaling bonus, linked to practice financial performance.
- Generous CPD allowance, including support towards certificate study.
- RCVS fees and VDS cover paid by the practice.
- 25 days annual leave + bank holidays, pro rata.
- Private medical insurance, including cover for pre-existing conditions.
- 15 days occupational sick leave, pro rata.
- Enhanced pension contributions.
- Enhanced maternity and paternity leave.
- Generous colleague discount scheme covering up to 5 registered pets.
- Relocation assistance available.
- Part-time applications welcomed, with a minimum commitment of 3 days per week.
Ready for Your Next Step?
If you’re an ambitious Veterinary Surgeon looking to step into a Clinical Director position — or an experienced clinical leader looking for a fresh challenge — we’d love to hear from you.
This is an opportunity to combine clinical excellence, team leadership and practice development, while having the autonomy and support to make the role your own.
