The Role

The Clinical Engineer (Clinical Technologist) will work within the Medical Equipment Management Service based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The role involves supporting the safe diagnosis and treatment of patients through the maintenance, repair, commissioning, calibration, and performance assurance of a wide range of medical equipment. Working alongside a team of specialist clinical engineer technologists, you will help manage medical devices across NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• Permanent, full-time, 36 hours per week
• Shift pattern - Monday to Friday, 7.2 hrs per day. 8:30 am to 4:12 pm with a 30-minute lunch
• Base location - Royal Alexandra Hospital
  
  

Key Responsibilities

• Service, maintain, repair, and fault-find on a wide range of medical equipment.
• Commission and performance-assure new medical devices.
• Calibrate and test medical equipment to ensure safe and effective operation.
• Respond to equipment failures and provide technical support in clinical environments.
• Undertake planned preventative maintenance across hospital departments and clinics.
• Manage equipment throughout its lifecycle in line with service standards.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and clinical staff to support patient care and safety.
• Support the effective management of high and medium-risk medical devices, including equipment such as infusion pumps.
  
  

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential Knowledge And Skills

• Engineering or Technology knowledge to SCQF Level 9.
• Understanding of the clinical, scientific, and engineering principles relating to medical equipment.
• Good organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Commitment to learning and professional development.
  
  

Required

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the required level of English language proficiency, if English is not their first language, through one of the following:

• Academic qualification at SCQF Level 9 or higher completed at a UK-based university.
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with an overall score of 7, and no element of reading, speaking, listening, or writing below 6.5.
• Occupational English Test with a minimum grade B in the writing section (NMC C+), and only one score lower than B in the other three sections and no lower than C+
  
  

Desirable Experience

• Experience of servicing, repairing, and fault-finding medical equipment.
• Interest in medical technology, engineering, and patient safety.
  
  

Training

• Comprehensive 2-year competency-based training programme covering:
• Medical equipment commissioning.
• Calibration and testing.
• Performance assurance.
• Maintenance and repair of a wide range of medical devices.
