Relocation Opportunity to Christchurch This role is based in Christchurch; however, we are open to considering exceptional candidates from anywhere in New Zealand. Relocation support is offered to the successful applicant to assist with moving to Christchurch and joining this landmark infrastructure project. Project Overview This role supports the delivery of the Christchurch Men's Prison Redevelopment Project, a significant infrastructure programme being delivered by the Southern Renewal Partners Consortium, comprising Webuild Leight Joint Venture and key project partners. The project involves the renewal and expansion of critical correctional infrastructure, supporting the long-term needs of New Zealand's justice system through the delivery of modern, high-quality facilities and associated infrastructure. Delivered within a complex and highly collaborative environment, the project brings together leading construction, engineering and operational specialists to achieve shared outcomes across safety, quality, programme performance and stakeholder expectations. The project offers a unique opportunity to contribute to infrastructure that will provide lasting community value while working alongside experienced professionals from across the consortium. About the Opportunity Joining the Southern Renewal Partners Consortium provides the opportunity to play a meaningful role in the successful delivery of the Christchurch Men's Prison Redevelopment Project. You will be part of an integrated team working within a structured and professional project environment that values collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement. The project offers exposure to large-scale infrastructure delivery, multidisciplinary teams and industry-leading systems and processes, creating excellent opportunities for both personal and professional growth. About the Role Based in Templeton, Christchurch and reporting to the People & Culture Manager, the Communications & Iwi Liaison Manager will act as the central coordination point for project communications, stakeholder engagement, community relations and cultural engagement activities. Working closely with project leadership, client representatives, mana whenua and external stakeholders, you will ensure effective implementation of communication and stakeholder engagement plans, maintain positive relationships across diverse stakeholder groups and promote a proactive "no surprises" approach to engagement and issue management. Key Responsibilities Lead implementation of the project's Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Plan. Develop and deliver communication and stakeholder engagement strategies aligned to project objectives. Coordinate engagement activities throughout design, construction, commissioning and handover phases. Build and maintain strong relationships with mana whenua, iwi representatives, community groups, neighbours and government stakeholders. Support Department-led engagement with mana whenua and facilitate culturally appropriate consultation activities. Coordinate project communications including newsletters, notifications, briefings, project updates and stakeholder correspondence. Manage stakeholder databases, engagement records and communication registers. Act as a key point of contact for stakeholder enquiries, concerns and community issues. Coordinate complaints management processes, investigations and resolutions. Monitor stakeholder sentiment, identify risks and develop engagement strategies to support positive project outcomes. Support community meetings, workshops, briefings and engagement forums. Prepare governance reports, stakeholder updates and communication performance reporting. Support project reputation management, media protocols and issue response planning. Promote understanding of Te Ao Māori, support culturally responsive engagement practices, and contribute to positive social, cultural and community outcomes. About You To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced communications and stakeholder engagement professional who enjoys working in complex project environments and building strong, trusted relationships. You will bring excellent communication skills, sound judgement and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders while balancing community expectations, project priorities and cultural considerations. Qualifications, Skills and Experience Minimum 7-10 years' experience in communications, stakeholder engagement, community relations, public affairs or a related discipline. Demonstrated experience delivering stakeholder engagement programmes on major infrastructure, construction, government or public sector projects. Experience working with government agencies, local authorities, community groups and project partners. Experience supporting iwi, Māori or cultural engagement initiatives. Strong stakeholder management, relationship-building and communication skills. Proven ability to manage community issues, complaints and stakeholder risks. Excellent written communication and reporting capability. Experience facilitating workshops, meetings and stakeholder forums. Strong organisational and project coordination skills. Sound understanding of media, reputation and crisis communication principles. Ability to work effectively in complex and highly regulated environments. A collaborative approach and commitment to building trust through transparent engagement.
