Compiler Software Engineer

Accelerator, Compiler, and Toolchain Lead.

My client is a well-funded ($110m Series A) startup who builds ultra-low power AI chips for physical AI — think robotics, drones, and autonomous systems competing directly with Nvidia and Qualcomm.

Founded by exited entrepreneurs with a proven track record of building and shipping industry-defining silicon. The physical AI edge market is wide open right now.

Accelerator Compiler & Toolchain Lead role — own the entire compiler stack from scratch for a brand new NPU architecture. Build and lead the team. On-site in Santa Clara, $250K-$350K+ base with equity.

Candidate Requirements

• Must have expertise in AI silicon acceleration and compiler development.
• Looking for a senior candidate with 10+ years in the industry and 5+ years with compilers.

Technical Skills

• Experience with end-to-end compiler development, including graph import, operator lowering, and quantization.
• Familiarity with ONNX, TensorFlow, LLVM, and IR frameworks.

Team Structure and Growth

• Initial hands-on role with transition to team leadership, responsible for hiring additional team members.
• Opportunity to build and guide a team focused on AI silicon tools.

Requirements:

• Built or shipped compiler infrastructure for ML/AI accelerators (e. g. , NPU, GPU, DSP compiler stacks at Nvidia, Qualcomm, Google, Ambarella, Sema, or Quadric)
• End- to- end compiler knowledge: graph import, operator lowering, IR, graph transformations, quantization, graph partitioning
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Santa Clara, CA; 5 days/week on- site
• 10 - 20 years of experience in compiler development for ML accelerators, GPUs, or DSPs (min 5 years specifically with compilers)
• Led or technically guided a compiler/ML systems engineering team
• Strong C++ and Python; experience with MLIR, LLVM, TVM, XLA, or equivalent
• Genuinely enthusiastic about hands- on technical work, not just managing
• Experience at Nvidia, Qualcomm, Google, Ambarella, Sema, or Quadric
• Familiarity with edge AI workloads: robotics, computer vision, CNNs, transformers
• Visa sponsorship/transfer available if needed
