Job Description
About the Position:
An excellent opportunity has arisen in our Development and Community Directorate to join the Shire of Broome in the role of Compliance Officer.
The Compliance Officer will be responsible for the investigation and management of compliance matters in accordance with relevant legislation, local laws, policies and procedures. The role assesses complaints and alleged breaches, conducts inspections and investigations, engages with property owners, stakeholders and members of the community, and provides accurate compliance advice. The position is also responsible for maintaining thorough records and documentation, preparing reports and correspondence, and implementing appropriate enforcement actions where necessary. In addition, the role contributes to community education and proactive compliance initiatives, working collaboratively with internal departments, external agencies and the wider community to achieve fair, consistent and effective compliance outcomes.

This position is a 12-month contract.
About You
Our ideal candidate will hold a Diploma in Local Government, Regulatory Services, Government Investigations, Statutory Compliance, or a related discipline, or demonstrate equivalent experience in conducting compliance inspections, investigating complaints and resolving compliance matters. They will possess strong investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills, together with highly developed written and verbal communication abilities and a keen attention to detail. The ability to interpret and apply legislation, exercise sound judgement and make evidence-based decisions is essential.
The successful candidate will be confident and professional when dealing with challenging situations and a diverse range of stakeholders, including members of the public. They will demonstrate integrity, fairness, discretion and a strong customer service focus in all interactions. Well-organised and self-motivated, the candidate will be capable of working independently while also contributing positively and effectively as part of a collaborative team environment.
