This role offers the opportunity to lead the delivery of high-quality, specialist psychiatric services across regional and country mental health services in South Australia. Join our Rural & Remote Mental Health Service as a Consultant Psychiatrist and play a pivotal role in strengthening mental health care across the Whyalla region. Based in Whyalla, you will provide specialist psychiatric care, outreach services, clinical leadership, and supervision to medical practitioners while contributing to service improvement, quality initiatives, research, and innovative models of care tailored to regional communities. Working as part of a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will help shape the future of mental health services by partnering with consumers, families, carers, community organisations, and healthcare providers. This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on mental health outcomes while influencing strategic direction, mentoring clinicians, and advancing evidence-based practice across rural and remote South Australia. WHO ARE WE? The appointed consultant will join the Rural & Remote Mental Health Service Consultant Psychiatry Team at Glenside and report to the Clinical Director. The role involves liaising with mental health consumers, carers, families, community organisations, and external service providers within the Whyalla catchment area. WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR? Are you a Consultant Psychiatrist with experience in providing specialist mental health services across country and regional communities? Do you have the clinical expertise and leadership skills to guide teams, improve patient outcomes, and mentor junior clinicians? Are you ready to contribute to research, service reform, and quality improvement initiatives that enhance mental health care in regional settings? If you have answered yes to any of these questions – then read on… HOW WILL YOU CONTRIBUTE? Provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment, and clinical leadership across inpatient, outpatient, community, and home-based settings. Support clinicians, general practitioners, and multidisciplinary teams to manage complex cases and implement least restrictive care practices. Lead teaching, mentoring, and supervision of undergraduate students, postgraduate medical trainees, and mental health staff. Contribute to quality, safety, risk management, and research initiatives to improve service delivery and outcomes for consumers. Provide strategic clinical advice, policy input, and governance support across regional mental health services. WHAT WILL WE OFFER YOU IN RETURN? You must have a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists & be registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Consultant Psychiatrist. You must have demonstrated participation in continuing medical education since attaining qualification in psychiatric medicine.
