Job Overview

Develop your expertise in non-vascular interventional radiology while working across a diverse healthcare network serving communities throughout Mid and West Wales.

We are seeking a Consultant Radiologist with a specialist interest in Non-Vascular Interventional Radiology to join Hywel Dda University Health Board. This role offers the opportunity to combine a broad general radiology practice with a varied range of non-vascular interventional procedures, contributing to the delivery and continued development of radiology services across the region.

The successful candidate will join a supportive and collaborative radiology department, working alongside experienced colleagues to provide high-quality diagnostic and interventional services. We welcome applications from candidates with demonstrable expertise in a wide range of non-vascular interventions and an interest in helping to shape and develop services to meet the needs of our population.

Main duties of the job

This is a new post with the base to be agreed on appointment, joining 24 Consultant Radiologists providing radiology services to the population of Hywel Dda University Health Board, 2.5wte of whom undertake non-vascular interventions.

The post holder will actively contribute to MDT meetings and be competent in a wide range of non-vascular interventions to include fluoroscopic, ultrasound and CT guided therapeutic and diagnostic techniques such as:

  • Head and neck, lung, liver, omental, retroperitoneal and soft tissue biopsies
  • Temporary and permanent chest and abdominal drain insertions (e.g. cholecystectomy, nephrostomy and DJ ureteric stenting).

The successful candidate will participate in the daytime Duty Radiologist rota covering inpatient scanning which could include cross cover from the base site. A proportion of the out of hours (OOH) on call is currently outsourced and completed remotely by an online Teleradiology provider. However, the directorate is currently subject to transformation bringing a proportion of this service in-house. The successful candidate will participate in the new internal on-call rota. This will include providing and promoting a flexible approach by contributing to this service completing cross-site reporting and emergency cover for our four main hospital sites where necessary on site and remotely from home.

  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services
