The Role
HII - America’s largest shipbuilder and a global, all-domain defense provider- has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Customer Relations. The Director of Customer Relations serves as the Corporate Director, Government Customer Relations (Mission Technologies Portfolio) located in Arlington, VA and reports to the HII Corporate Vice President, Customer Relations (Mission Technologies Portfolio). The successful candidate will play a meaningful role in supporting HII’s rapid growth by coordinating government and customer relations activities focused on the Department of War (DoW), Intelligence Community (IC) and related public policy issues. The successful candidate will possess the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively; be both strategic and accountable for detailed follow-through; and be capable of working successfully in an entrepreneurial, highly collaborative, and fast-moving global organization.
Primary responsibility is to serve as the liaison between HII’s Mission Technologies (MT) Division and all Customer stakeholders in the Mission Technologies Enterprise. Duties and responsibilities include:
- Interact and engage with MT business units and their customers on all matters related to MT business including C5ISR, EW/Space/Cyber, Nuclear and Environmental,, Live Virtual Constructive training, Unmanned Systems and Fleet Sustainment.
- Coordinate federal government relations activities, with a focus on the DoW and the IC, working closely with MT leadership and others.
- Identify and help to develop opportunities for MT through appropriate strategic engagement with government organizations.
- Monitor, analyze and communicate budget and regulatory developments that are relevant to MT’s present and future lines of business.
- Advocate for government policies that are consistent with MT’s values and corporate priorities.
- Establish relationships with the DoW and other customers and regulators / policy makers that will help MT engage with the federal government on a strategic level.
- Coordinate meetings with customers, competitors, clients, and teammates to develop market insight on requirements, acquisition strategy, acquisition timing, and contract vehicle choices.
- Assist, coordinate and support customer and other Distinguished Visitors to HII/MT facilities.
- Assist with translating MT priorities into government policy making, planning and budgeting.
- Help translate MT priorities and activities into results that satisfy the customer.
- Support/participate in major tradeshows (AFCEA, Sea Air Space, Modern Day Marine, etc).
- Maintain relationships with other defense industry partners with similar MT business units.
- Perform other duties as assigned by GCR/Corporate leadership.
Must Have
- Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline (or the equivalent in education, training and experience), plus a minimum of 10 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience; Master's degree and 8 years relevant experience.
- Must possess established relationships within the DoW and IC market environment and relevant customer communities.
- Demonstrate existing relationships with senior level DoW and IC officials
- Firm understanding of the Federal Government budget, investments and acquisition processes and participation in government procurements.
Nice to Have
- Experience in Department of War and the Intelligence Community Acquisition Programs with a preference to USAF, USMC, USA or other agencies
- Experience in DoW Budget development; an understanding of DoW’s Planning, Programming, Budgeting System (PPBS).
- Operational experience in relevant MT Business Unit areas.
- Held a senior level government position
