Job Description:
Providing for loved ones, planning rewarding retirements, saving enough for whatever lies ahead – our policyholders count on us to be there when it matters most. It’s a big ask, but it’s one that we have the power to deliver when we work together. We collaborate and innovate – pushing one another to transform not just Pacific Life, but the entire industry for the better. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do. Pacific Life is more than a job, it’s a career with purpose. It’s a career where you have the support, balance, and resources to make a positive impact on the future – including your own.
We’re actively seeking a talented Director of Data Analytics to join our team in our Charlotte, NC: Omaha, NE or Newport Beach, CA office. Relocation Assistance may be provided.
The Director of Data Analytics is accountable for setting and executing the Operations Data Analytics strategy for a department-level analytics function supporting multiple related Operations teams and business partners. This leader establishes the vision, roadmap, governance model, operating priorities, and resource plan for analytics capabilities that enable trusted, data-driven decision-making across Operations and key cross-functional stakeholders.
The role leads senior analytics professionals responsible for operational reporting, dashboards, metric definitions, data modeling standards, forecasting, capacity planning, predictive analytics, and strategic insight generation.
The Director ensures analytical work is connected to business outcomes, consumable by leaders, and aligned to Pacific Life data standards, enterprise governance expectations, and Operations Transformation priorities.
As the primary data partner for Operations Transformation, this leader owns the end-to-end analytics function supporting transformation deliverables, measurable outcomes, executive reporting, and advanced analytics that drive operational performance, customer experience, quality, efficiency, and business value.
How you’ll help move us forward:
Department Strategy & Business Planning
• Set the strategy, vision, and operating roadmap for Operations Data Analytics across multiple related teams, functions, or stakeholder groups.
• Develop and execute 12–18 month business plans that define analytics priorities, delivery commitments, capacity requirements, governance routines, and measurable outcomes.
• Translate long-term Operations and Transformation strategy into practical analytics capabilities, reporting standards, decision support, and execution plans.
• Provide input into broader functional direction, enterprise data standards, and analytics operating models based on Operations needs and business priorities.
End-to-End Functional Ownership
• Own the end-to-end Operations analytics function, including intake, prioritization, delivery, dashboard/reporting enablement, metric standardization, model validation, and stakeholder adoption.
• Ensure analytics deliverables support multiple related teams and business processes rather than isolated reporting requests.
• Establish clear service expectations, decision rights, quality standards, and escalation paths for analytics support across Operations.
People Leadership & Resource Accountability
• Lead senior individual contributors accountable for analytics delivery, governance, reporting, and advanced analytical solutions.
• Manage department capacity, workforce planning, prioritization, budget inputs, vendor/tooling needs, and resource allocation across strategic initiatives and operational support.
• Develop leadership depth, analytical capability, business acumen, and execution discipline within the analytics organization.
• Build a culture focused on quality, accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and strong business partnership.
Executive Business Partnership
• Serve as the primary analytics partner for Operations leadership, Operations Transformation, Technology, Finance, Risk, and other key stakeholders.
• Convert business challenges into scalable analytical solutions, executive-level insights, measurable recommendations, and implementation-ready actions.
• Partner with leaders to identify opportunities to improve customer experience, operational efficiency, quality, risk management, financial performance, and transformation outcomes.
• Communicate insights through executive-ready narratives, dashboards, scorecards, and decision forums that connect tactical performance with strategic business direction.
Analytics, Reporting & Advanced Insights
• Oversee the development, maintenance, and adoption of operational dashboards, KPIs, scorecards, self-service reporting, and decision-support tools.
• Ensure reporting is accurate, trusted, timely, standardized, and meaningful for business users and executive audiences.
• Guide advanced analytics initiatives and work closely with Data Science team when appropriate on trend analysis, forecasting, capacity planning, performance measurement, scenario modeling, and predictive analytics.
• Promote automation and scalable reporting solutions that reduce manual effort and improve speed, consistency, and usability.
Data Governance & Standards
• Establish and maintain department-level standards for data models, metric definitions, business rules, analytical assumptions, calculation methodologies, documentation, and validation routines.
• Ensure consistency of reporting across business areas through clear governance, standard definitions, and quality controls.
• Partner with Technology, Data Engineering, Risk, and business teams to improve data quality, accessibility, lineage, controls, and integrity.
• Define processes for validating analytical models, reporting outputs, and transformation metrics before executive or operational use.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
• Develop governance processes for prioritizing analytics requests and balancing strategic initiatives with operational support.
• Identify opportunities to improve analytics processes, tools, operating cadence, and delivery models.
• Monitor team performance, stakeholder usage, delivery effectiveness, and quality outcomes; use findings to coach leaders and improve execution.
• Use data to drive continuous improvement in business processes, analytics operations, and measurable business outcomes.
The experience you bring:
• Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business, Economics, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in data analytics, business intelligence, reporting, operational analytics, or related analytical disciplines.
• 5+ years of leadership experience managing analytics teams, including experience leading subordinate managers and/or senior individual contributors.
• Demonstrated experience setting department or function-level analytics strategy, roadmaps, governance practices, and execution priorities.
• Experience owning analytics delivery for multiple business functions, teams, or major enterprise initiatives within a complex organization.
