Titanium Birch isn’t your typical investment firm.
Started by one of the co-founders of ExpressVPN, we’re a small, multidisciplinary team building an investment firm from the ground up. Software is deeply integrated into how we research, invest, and operate. As we develop better ways to understand businesses and markets, we turn those ideas into software, automation, and AI, continually improving how the firm operates and makes decisions.
We've already built a systematic, factor-tilted public equities portfolio from strategy through implementation, automated accounting and reconciliation that passes audits, and developed increasingly systematic ways to approach venture investing. We want to go much further.
We’re looking for someone with a mix of engineering chops and genuine interest in investing. You might be an engineer who invests on the side, or an investor or operator who has learned to code. The key thing is that you can take an ambiguous problem, get to the heart of what matters, and work with others to build a useful solution.
You don’t need a finance background. You do need good judgment, strong communication, broad curiosity, and the ability to use modern tools thoughtfully and effectively.
Does this sound like you?
- You’re comfortable writing code and equally interested in discussing how we might allocate capital.
- You love learning how businesses, systems, and people work.
- You use AI effectively to explore ideas, accelerate execution, and improve the quality of your thinking.
- You’re resourceful. When faced with something unfamiliar, you figure it out.
- You notice when something is clunky, unclear, or broken — and want to improve it.
- You communicate clearly, ask good questions, and work well with people from different backgrounds.
- You live in Singapore (or are returning home) and expect to stay for the foreseeable future.
What will I be doing?
You'll help us build better systems for how Titanium Birch operates, learns, and makes decisions.
That might mean:
- Building systems that support investment decisions in public markets.
- Creating a knowledge engine that turns messy information from fund managers and external sources into something our team can act on quickly and confidently.
- Working across investing, operations, finance, and data to identify bottlenecks and design better ways of working.
- Systematizing recurring work such as reporting, reconciliation, due diligence, research, and portfolio monitoring.
- Improving the reliability, visibility, and usability of the systems we already depend on, and building new tools, automations, and workflows where they help.
- Evaluating vendors, software, and processes with sound judgment about trade-offs.
- Writing clear documentation so good ideas become shared infrastructure.
- Turning fuzzy, high-context problems into well-scoped projects with useful outcomes.
This is not a narrow role. Your scope will evolve with your strengths and with what the organization needs most. Over time, you might take ownership of increasingly important systems, problem areas, or even part of the portfolio itself.
The breadth of the role is intentional. You’ll work closely with the rest of the team and have the time and space to build expertise as your scope grows.
What success looks like in your first 6 months
- You’ve identified and solved at least one meaningful organizational problem end-to-end.
- You’ve shipped an automation, tool, or workflow that saves time, improves quality, or reduces operational risk.
- You’ve built trust across the team by communicating clearly, exercising good judgment, and following through.
- You’ve made at least one core process simpler, clearer, or more reliable.
Some examples of what that first project might look like:
- Understanding how corporate lifecycles affect valuations over time and incorporating that into our public equities portfolio construction.
- Improving an AI agent that helps us process information from current and potential private-market investments.
What’s in it for me?
- Real investing scope. You’ll work on problems that directly affect how we allocate capital and evaluate investments.
- Interesting problems. You might build public-markets decision systems, create tools for evaluating startups and VC funds, or redesign how part of the organization operates.
- Ownership. We’re a small team, so strong performers can take responsibility for increasingly important problems.
- Learning. You’ll develop judgment by working close to real decisions, not just support tasks.
- Good colleagues. You’ll work with thoughtful, capable people who care about doing good work.
- Sustainable pace. We work normal hours, without regular after-hours firefighting.
Must have:
- Genuine interest in investing, businesses, or decision-making under uncertainty.
- Experience building, improving, or running systems, tools, or processes that other people depend on.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Technical fluency to build, adapt, and improve tools and workflows yourself.
- Strong judgment and follow-through. You can make sense of an ambiguous problem and drive it to a useful outcome.
- Ability to work well with others and build trust across functions.
- Curiosity and range. You can move across disciplines and get up to speed quickly in unfamiliar areas.
- Ability to use modern tools, including AI, to solve problems thoughtfully and effectively.
Nice to have:
- Experience with Python, AWS, or infrastructure as code.
- Experience building internal tools, decision-support systems, or operational workflows.
- Experience working with messy, real-world data.
- Familiarity with testing, monitoring, and reliability.
- Interest in IT, security, or data quality.
Administrative:
- Based in Singapore. We don’t offer international relocation.
- If you need an Employment Pass, we can sponsor it, but you must already be in Singapore.
- You’ll work primarily from our office in downtown Singapore.
- Extensive reference checks are part of our process.
Refer to our employee handbook for details about performance management, compensation, and learning.
