"The most dangerous phrase in the language is: we've always done it this way." — Rear Admiral Grace Hopper, who invented the compiler and spent half her career dragging institutions into the computer age.
Hopper would have liked this job. The industry you'll be working in runs on software older than the internet. Our client thinks that's exactly backwards.
TWO THINGS TO CHECK BEFORE YOU READ ON
1. You are currently at, or recently left, McKinsey, Bain or BCG. This search is MBB only. 3–6 years in strategy consulting, ideally with a promotion or two along the way.
2. Your bachelor's degree is from a top-20 university. US top 20, or an international equivalent such as Oxford, Cambridge, LSE or Waterloo. This is a firm requirement, and a master's or MBA from a top school does not substitute for the undergraduate degree.
If both are true, keep going.
WHO YOU'LL BE JOINING
An AI-native fintech headquartered in SoMa, San Francisco, backed by Andreessen Horowitz, valued in the billions, and sitting on hundreds of millions of dollars in signed enterprise contracts that now need to go live. They have built an operating system for a complex, highly regulated corner of financial services, replacing decades-old legacy systems with a single platform that unifies workflows, data and money movement.
The company is over 220 people and has moved past "will this work" into "how fast can we roll it out". That shift is why this role exists, and why they're hiring ten of them. Several of the current team came straight from MBB.
WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY DO
You will own live enterprise deployments for some of the largest institutions in the country. Not advise on them. Own them. It is the move from recommending the answer to being accountable for it.
Starting with a signed eight- or nine-figure contract, you will:
• Get inside the client's operation: sit with their teams, map how work really flows, query their data yourself and find the problems worth solving first.
• Configure the platform to fit, then drive adoption across teams who have been doing it the old way for twenty years.
• Partner with engineering and product to turn messy legacy processes into software that scales.
• Make calls with incomplete information. Every deployment is different, and nobody hands you a finished playbook.
• Then write the playbook. Build the tooling and processes that make the next rollout faster than the last.
Travel is 10–20%, all domestic. Otherwise you're in the SoMa office three to four days a week. Basic SQL and Python are useful and the team will help you pick them up; what matters is that you already use AI tools daily and want to go deeper.
WHO THEY'RE LOOKING FOR
• 3–6 years at McKinsey, Bain or BCG. Consultant, Senior Consultant, Associate or Engagement Manager level, with real client ownership.
• Top-20 undergraduate degree. See above. Firm.
• Hands-on AI fluency. You use AI tools and coding agents in your actual work and can talk concretely about it.
• Builder's instincts. You've created a process, framework or tool from nothing because nobody else had, and it stuck.
• High agency and comfort in ambiguity. You'd rather figure out what's true than wait to be told.
• Tenure. A track record of staying and getting promoted.
Already in the Bay Area, or willing to relocate (assistance available).
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU
• Base up to US$240K, with meaningful equity (RSUs or options, monthly vesting after a one-year cliff) and sign-on bonuses available.
• A trillion-dollar industry, nine-figure contracts, and real operational change you can measure.
• Hybrid in SoMa, most people in Tuesday to Thursday. Lunch and dinner on office days. Relocation support up to $10K.
• Visa transfers (OPT, H-1B) welcome.
• A four-step process: strategic thinking interview, executive screen, then a panel with a take-home review and live case study. Early rounds are self-scheduled.
WHY NOW
The people who join this cohort will shape how every future rollout is run. In two years there will be a playbook; right now there is you.
