Shape the Future of Payments and Financial Technology.
We are seeking a motivated Developer to help design and deliver secure solutions across payments, tokenization, blockchain, digital assets, and distributed ledger technologies (DLT). Working closely with the Bank for International Settlements Innovation Hub (BISIH) in Toronto, you will contribute to innovate projects that address complex challenges in the evolving financial technology landscape. We are looking for a collaborative and curious individual with a passion for emerging technologies and a commitment to continuous learning and innovation.

What you will be working on
You will work collaboratively with our team to help design and deliver scalable, secure and practical technology solutions in payments, tokenisation, digital assets and distributed ledger systems:

  • Develop technology solutions and prototypes that explore and advance use cases in payments, tokenisation, digital assets, and distributed ledger systems.
  • Contribute to the technical design and implementation of systems involving payment flows, settlement processes, tokenised assets, ledger integrations, smart contract-enabled workflows, wallet interactions and related digital finance infrastructure.
  • Build and maintain high-quality backend services, APIs, integration layers, developer tools, and other core platform components.
  • Evaluate technical approaches and provide input on architecture, tooling implementation patterns, and the appropriate use of DLTs.
  • Collaborate with technical leads and stakeholders to define requirements, solutions options, implementation plans, and acceptance criteria.
  • Identify technical risks, performance concerns, and design challenges, and propose practical solutions.
  • Prepare clear technical documentation and communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to engineering best practices, including code quality, testing, security, observability, maintainability, and release management.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies, standards, and industry developments, and translate insights into practical recommendations and solutions.
    Participate in technical discussions, code reviews, and knowledge-sharing activities while contributing to a collaborative, delivery-focused team environment.

What you need to succeed
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate the following skills and competencies. We welcome applicants who may not meet every requirement but have a strong foundation and a willingness to continue learning and growing.

  • Familiarity with blockchain concepts, consensus algorithms, smart contracts and DeFi ecosystem including cross-chain and off-chain transfers, atomic swaps and oracle
  • Experience or capability of developing tokenized solutions on DLT platforms using Solidity, Move or similar technologies.
  • Strong programming skills in one or more modern languages such as Java, Kotlin, Go, C#, TypeScript, Python or Rust.
  • Knowledge of one or more following areas: payments, transaction flows, settlement, tokenisation, stablecoins, digital assets, market infrastructure or regulated financial systems.
  • Understanding of wallet and custody integrations, interoperability approaches, and key security, privacy, identity, access management, and resilience considerations in financial technology environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and a pragmatic approach to innovation and delivery.
  • Ability to work independently in an dynamic environment while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with token standards, token lifecycle design, smart contract review, or related controls supporting safe deployment of contract-based systems.
  • Exposure to payment standards, market infrastructure standards or regulated financial technology environments.
  • Experience or academic exposure to cloud-native development, containerization technologies, CI/CD pipelines and observability practices.
  • Familiarity with cryptography, key management, digital identity or privacy-enhancing technologies or related security concepts


Your education and experience
This position may be staffed at either the JG16 (Developer) or JG17 (Senior Developer) level, depending on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and demonstrated competencies.

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field, along with:
• 4 to 5 years of relevant experience for consideration at the JG16 (Developer) level; or
• 5 to 7 years of relevant experience for consideration at the JG17 (Senior Developer) level.

An equivalent combination of education and practical project experience may also be considered.
Recent graduates from a master's or PhD program in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field who have completed project work in blockchain, tokenization, smart contracts, or distributed ledger technologies (DLT) are encouraged to apply.

Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French. Hybrid Work Model

The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a portion of each month as part of the Bank’s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of 12 days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

    • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $94,193 to $110,816 (job grade 16) and from $111,051 to $130,649 (job grade 17)
    • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at between 5-10% (depending on job grade). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.

    • Extra vacation days (up to five each year) that you can purchase to add to your vacation entitlement
