Exciting opportunity for an outstanding senior academic who is a leading authority within their discipline Fixed term position for 5 years with opportunity for further appointment with an attractive remuneration package About the opportunity The ANZAC Research Institute is a biomedical research institute where discovery meets care. Guided by our history, we partner with clinicians to innovate and deliver improved health outcomes for Defence members, veterans and our broader community. The Institute was established in 1995 and is an entity of Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) operating as a research partnership with the University of Sydney. It is located on the campus of Concord Repatriation General Hospital (CRGH), a primary referral hospital within SLHD and a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. We are seeking to appoint an outstanding academic at the level of Associate Professor or Professor (Level D or E) as the Director of the ANZAC Research Institute. The appointee will have overall responsibility for leading the implementation of the Institutes strategic plan, provide scientific guidance, and liaise with SLHD and Precinct Academic Directors on operational and financial management of the Institute. In accordance with the research collaborative agreement, the Director will have accountability to the Chief Executive of SLHD and the Dean of Faculty of Medicine and Health University of Sydney (or their appointed delegates from time to time) as designated employers of the Director. In the case of the Faculty of Medicine and Health, the Director will report to the Head of School Medical Sciences, one of seven schools in FMH. The Director will also provide regular reports to the ANZAC Advisory Council covering the overall research performance of the Institute. The position is to be based in the School of Medical Sciences at University of Sydney and the Director will be a member of the school’s leadership team. About you (skills, capabilities and experience) The successful candidate will: hold research doctoral degree (PhD, MD or equivalent) with an outstanding record of achievement in a field of biomedical research relevant to the Institute (aging or related health specialties). have proven ability to deliver research an international standard in one or more fields relevant to the research of the Institute. have an outstanding research track record as evidenced by publications, instances of research translation and/or commercialisation supervision of successful HDR students. demonstrate evidence of peer recognition through involvement and leading committees, boards and editorial appointments and track record of developing national & international collaboration. have proven ability to secure significant and sustained competitive research funding. have proven ability to deliver on strategic directions of the Institute and provide scientific leadership within a complex biomedical research environment. Capacity to promote the research and translation functions of the Institute with the SLHD and University. understand research governance policies and legislation and rules of ethical research conduct. promote a strong research culture, strengthening existing collaborations and fostering new partnerships. be managing engagement with industry partners. Term and remuneration The successful candidate will be offered a 5-year fixed term full-time position, subject to completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. There is opportunity for further appointments subject to performance. The successful candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
