ABOUT INUVIALUIT REGIONAL CORPORATION (IRC)
Established in 1984 to manage the settlement outlined in the Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA), Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) represents the collective interests of Inuvialuit. IRC’s goal is to continually improve the economic, social and cultural wellbeing of the Inuvialuit through implementation of the IFA and by all other available means. Through strong partnerships and community‑driven programs, the organization supports economic growth, cultural preservation and opportunities for current and future generations.
Inuvialuit beneficiaries directly control IRC and its subsidiaries through a democratic process of elected directors from each of the six community corporations with chairs at the IRC Board, a process originally outlined in the IFA.
JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Legal Services (DLS) reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is accountable to the CFO for the delivery of legal services across Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) and its subsidiaries. The DLS serves as a trusted advisor to the CFO and, through or in coordination with the CFO, to the Chair & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Executive Leadership Team, the Board of Directors, subsidiary entities, community corporations, and affiliated organizations.
The DLS provides expert legal counsel on a broad range of matters including corporate governance, commercial transactions, Indigenous rights, regulatory compliance, employment law, litigation management, land and resource development, and risk management. The position ensures that IRC operates within applicable legal and regulatory frameworks while protecting and advancing the rights, interests, and priorities of the Inuvialuit.
As a member of the leadership team reporting to the CFO, the DLS contributes to organizational strategy, including the legal dimensions of implementing IRC’s 2027–2030 Strategic Plan, supports sound decision-making, and promotes legal and governance practices that align with IRC’s mission of improving the economic, social and cultural wellbeing of the Inuvialuit. The role operates with a foundation of deep respect for Inuvialuit self-determination and cultural values. The successful candidate will earn trust through sustained listening, cultural humility and the practical utility of their contribution.
