As part of its continued growth, the organization is seeking a Director of Construction to provide strategic and operational leadership across a diverse portfolio of construction projects. This is an opportunity for an experienced construction leader to influence business strategy, develop high-performing teams, drive operational excellence, and contribute to the long-term success of a progressive construction company. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping departmental performance, fostering client relationships, supporting business development initiatives, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably.
The Director of Construction is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and performance of the construction division, overseeing civil, industrial, and general contracting operations delivered through a variety of contract models, including cost-plus, lump sum, unit-price, design-build, construction management, and collaborative project delivery approaches. This position is accountable for departmental profitability, productivity, project execution, safety performance, equipment utilization, workforce development, and client satisfaction. The Director will work closely with executive leadership to establish strategic priorities, optimize operational performance, support business growth, and build a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide overall leadership for the construction division, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, profitably, and in alignment with organizational objectives.
- Partner with executive leadership to develop strategic plans, annual budgets, growth initiatives, and operational priorities that support long-term business success.
- Oversee the performance of project management, operations, estimating, and field teams, establishing clear expectations, accountability, and measurable performance goals.
- Direct the successful delivery of civil, industrial, and general contracting projects, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
- Review and approve major project plans, including execution strategies, scopes, forecasts, budgets, resource allocations, and significant change orders.
- Monitor departmental and project performance through financial reporting, job cost analysis, forecasting, and key performance indicators, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Lead workforce and equipment planning efforts to optimize resource utilization, productivity, and operational efficiency across multiple projects.
- Drive continuous improvement by enhancing processes, systems, reporting standards, project controls, and overall operational effectiveness.
- Champion the adoption of technology, data analytics, and modern construction practices to improve decision-making, project outcomes, and organizational performance.
- Foster a strong safety-first culture by promoting proactive risk management, supporting incident investigations, and ensuring continuous improvement in safety performance.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners to support project success and future opportunities.
- Support business development efforts by participating in client meetings, proposals, project pursuits, and market engagement activities while providing technical and operational expertise.
- Identify market trends, emerging opportunities, and competitive risks, leveraging industry insights to support business growth and strengthen market position.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure alignment, communication, and seamless execution of corporate and operational objectives.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing leaders and teams through coaching, succession planning, performance management, and employee development initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- 8-10 years of progressive construction industry experience, including senior leadership responsibility.
- Proven track record leadership within civil, industrial, commercial, or multi-disciplinary construction operations.
- Strong understanding of construction delivery methods, contract administration, estimating, project controls, and project execution.
- Strong understanding of self-perform work including equipment
- Experience managing projects delivered through cost-plus, lump sum, unit-price, design-build, construction management, and collaborative delivery models.
- Demonstrated financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasting, profitability, and operational performance.
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience leading large teams and developing future leaders.
- Technology-forward mindset with experience leveraging systems, processes, and data analytics to support decision-making.
- Knowledge of safety management systems and operational best practices.
- PMP, Gold Seal Certification (GSC), or similar professional designation is considered an asset.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
- $170K-$200K base + Short-Term and Long-Term Incentive Plans. OTE range of mid-high $200’s
