About the Role
A well-established manufacturer of high-reliability electromechanical products is seeking a Senior Electrical Motor Design Engineer to join its Wichita engineering team.
This is a hands-on technical leadership position focused on the design and development of electric motors and electromagnetic products. The right candidate will remain heavily involved in engineering while also mentoring and providing technical direction to a small team.
The position supports products from concept and design through prototyping, testing, qualification, production release, and sustaining engineering.
What You’ll Do
Design and develop PMDC, BLDC, wound-field DC, and AC induction motors
Lead motor electrical design, winding development, electromagnetic analysis, and performance trade studies
Support related electromagnetic devices such as resolvers, synchros, RVDTs, LVDTs, and feedback devices
Perform electromagnetic simulation, material selection, calculations, and design validation
Support prototype builds, troubleshooting, validation, environmental testing, and qualification
Analyze test data and resolve motor performance or reliability issues
Develop and maintain drawings, specifications, BOMs, calculations, and technical documentation
Work closely with mechanical, manufacturing, quality, test, and program teams
Interface with customers on requirements and technical issues
Mentor and develop junior engineers while providing technical leadership to the engineering team
Support both new product development and existing product improvements
Required Qualifications
BS in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or related discipline
Approximately 5+ years of electric motor or electromagnetic product design experience
Strong hands-on experience designing electric motors
Experience with brushless and/or AC motors strongly preferred
Understanding of motor topologies, windings, electromagnetic design principles, and performance tradeoffs
Experience supporting products from concept through testing and release
Hands-on experience with prototyping, troubleshooting, and validation
Strong engineering documentation skills
Ability to mentor and provide technical direction to other engineers
U.S. Person status required due to export-control requirements
Preferred Experience
Previous engineering leadership or team-management experience
Aerospace, defense, automotive, agricultural equipment, industrial motion-control, or other high-reliability product experience
Experience with motor drives and power electronics integration
Qualification or environmental testing experience
Familiarity with Ansys Electronics Desktop, RMxprt, Simcenter Motorsolve, or Simcenter Magnet
Familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD-810, or similar regulated testing environments
