Director of Pharmacy Compliance | Pittsburgh, PA | On-Site

(Relocation assistance available)

A well-established and growing multistate pharmacy organization is seeking an experienced compliance leader to build and run its pharmacy compliance program from the ground up. This is a confidential search for a company with a long track record in the pharmacy space and an active, multi-state expansion underway — offering the rare opportunity to shape a compliance function from a blank slate rather than inherit someone else's.

About the Role

The primary focus of this role is strong, demonstrated experience in Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, and State Pharmacy Regulations, paired with a solid background in compounding operations — sterile compounding (USP <797>), non-sterile compounding (USP <795>), and hazardous drug handling and compliance (USP <800>). The ideal candidate can navigate complex, multi-jurisdictional regulatory environments, ensure ongoing compliance with state and federal requirements, and support quality and patient safety initiatives within a pharmacy or similar setting.

Day to day, this means reviewing and interpreting state-by-state pharmacy regulations before the company enters a new market; maintaining a living regulatory requirements matrix across every state where the organization holds licensure; auditing compounding facilities, records, and personnel practices for USP <795>/<797>/<800> adherence; and reviewing new compounding formulas and processes for regulatory risk before they go live. You'll manage resident and nonresident pharmacy licensure, pharmacist-in-charge requirements, and renewal deadlines across multiple states, and serve as the point person preparing pharmacy locations and staff for Board of Pharmacy, FDA, and DEA inspections.

Risk Management experience is a strong plus — you'll be identifying, assessing, and mitigating compliance and operational risks across the organization, running root-cause analysis on findings, and turning them into corrective action plans and updated training. This role also calls for proven leadership: someone who can lead teams, drive accountability, collaborate across departments, and help advance strategic initiatives. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to influence and guide organizational decision-making will be essential to success here.

What You'll Own:

  • Enterprise-wide pharmacy compliance and regulatory risk-management program
  • Sterile/nonsterile compounding oversight (USP <795>, <797>, <800>; FDA 503A)
  • Multistate licensure strategy — resident/nonresident permits, PIC requirements, renewals
  • Board of Pharmacy, FDA, and DEA inspection readiness
  • Compliance risk register, investigations, and corrective action plans
  • Cross-functional leadership with Quality, Operations, Clinical, Legal, and HR

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree + 5 years progressive experience in Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, or State Pharmacy Regulations
  • Solid background in sterile compounding (USP <797>), non-sterile compounding (USP <795>), and hazardous drug handling (USP <800>)
  • Proven ability to navigate complex, multi-state regulatory environments
  • Proven leadership experience — driving accountability and collaborating across departments
  • Risk Management experience strongly preferred
  • Strong communication skills and sound judgment in guiding organizational decisions

Bonus Points:

  • PharmD or BS Pharmacy, pharmacist licensure eligible in PA
  • Experience opening or scaling a compounding pharmacy
  • 503A/503B experience, DEA/controlled-substance knowledge
  • CHC, CHPC, or similar compliance credential
