About the GPD Team
Established in early 2026 through the combination of three separate Bechtel Enterprises teams focused on renewable, thermal and nuclear power, respectively, the Global Power Development (GPD) team seeks to be responsive to market demands for both firm and intermittent power resources, following market signals without internal preference for a particular generation technology. The GPD strategy is focused primarily on developments in the U.S., but certain other global markets could be in scope, so long as there is clear, upfront alignment with the strategy of the relevant Bechtel Global Business Unit (GBU). The GPD team develops projects with the aim of recovering development costs, earning a development fee and securing on behalf of Bechtel the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the developed project.
Job Summary:
Joining the GPD team as Director, Head of Partnerships & Transactions, is an opportunity to be an important senior member of a lean but fast-growing team that is working on a strategic and highly visible new business venture within a well-funded corporation. The Director must be a talented and energetic individual to lead power project-related transactions across the U.S. and in some cases, globally. This role will work closely with colleagues from Bechtel’s Infrastructure and Manufacturing & Technology GBUs. Reporting to the Head of GPD, the Director will serve as a key business partner and member of the GPD Leadership Team.
The position will be responsible for managing the GPD’s full suite of partnerships and transactions, including joint ventures, acquisitions, divestitures, development agreements, and capital formation. Activities will include evaluating and structuring opportunities, commercial and financial analysis, due diligence, transaction negotiations, and partner management. The position will work closely with development, finance, legal, engineering, and EPC teams to advance projects through development and into construction.
*This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
Major Responsibilities:
- Lead the origination, structuring, negotiation, and execution of transactions for development projects, including term sheets, joint development agreements, purchase and sale agreements, asset purchase agreements, and other project development related transactions.
- Lead strategic partnerships with key counterparties, including developers/IPPs, utilities, infrastructure and private equity investors, global investment funds, OEMs, hyperscalers, data center developers & operators and other strategic partners.
- Conduct due diligence and assess the viability of prospective partnerships and transactions.
- Develop commercial structures, business cases, risk allocation, and partnership & transaction strategies to advance new and existing development opportunities.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with developers, investors, strategic partners, and other key industry stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with internal development, finance, legal and EPC teams to advance partnerships and transactions.
- Interface with senior management regarding partnership and transaction strategy, investment opportunities, key commercial risks, and required approvals.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, engineering, or a related field, plus 10 or more years of progressively responsible experience in infrastructure and/or power, including development, investment, financing, and/or partnerships and transactions.
- Prefer: Juris Doctor, Master’s degree in a relevant field, MBA, or significant partnerships and transaction experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated experience structuring, negotiating, and executing complex commercial transactions and strategic partnerships.
- Strong understanding of power and/or other infrastructure project development, commercialization, financing, and investment considerations.
- Experience negotiating term sheets and long-term commercial agreements, including joint development, equity investment, acquisition/divestiture, and other partnership arrangements.
- Experience developing relationships with strategic counterparties, including developers/IPPs, utilities, investors, hyperscalers, data center developers & operators, OEMs, and other industry partners.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including assessment of transaction economics, risk allocation, and value creation.
- Outstanding communication, negotiation, networking, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills, including experience interfacing with senior management.
- Willingness to travel as necessary.
