Use Your Power for Purpose
At Pfizer, our purpose is breakthroughs that change patients’ lives and our colleagues make this happen. All over the world, our colleagues work together to touch millions of lives.
What You Will Achieve
The Director, Portfolio Strategy & Management shapes the strategic direction of the Global Hospital & Biosimilars (GH&B) portfolio by developing enterprise recommendations on where the business should grow, defend, improve, simplify, or exit. The Director leads and advises high-priority portfolio assessments, identifies strategic opportunities and emerging business questions, and partners across functions to deliver rigorous, evidence-based recommendations. These recommendations integrate commercial, financial, operational, manufacturing, regulatory, and strategic considerations; clearly articulate trade-offs and enterprise implications; and enable timely decisions through the Global Portfolio Forum and other governance bodies.
Success in this role requires maintaining clear, current strategic direction for priority portfolios; advancing assessments in line with business priorities; proactively identifying, sizing, and prioritizing future opportunities; and resolving cross-functional trade-offs to support effective execution. The Director also helps evolve GH&B’s portfolio operating model, assessment methodology, and future opportunity agenda to strengthen enterprise alignment and value creation.
How You Will Achieve It
Portfolio Strategy and Recommendations
- Lead Annual Portfolio Review and own portfolio recommendations across GH&B value chains, identifying where to grow, defend, improve, simplify, rationalize, or exit.
- Translate strategic theses into decision-ready recommendations with explicit assumptions, risks, trade-offs, dependencies, and enterprise implications.
- Ensure recommendations balance commercial opportunity, network realities, operational feasibility, financial returns, and long-term enterprise value.
- Present and defend recommendations in the Global Portfolio Forum and other governance forums as required.
- Maintain a current portfolio opportunity pipeline beyond committed programs and proactively elevate emerging opportunities and risks.
Portfolio Assessments and Deep Dives
- Lead, co-lead, and/or provide strategic advise for high-priority portfolio assessments, determining the appropriate scope, analytical approach, level of evidence, and cross-functional engagement required to progress each opportunity toward a decision.
- Assemble and direct cross-functional teams from Commercial, Manufacturing, Finance, Regulatory, Medical, Quality, Digital, and market organizations as appropriate.
- Determine which opportunities require hands-on leadership, which should be led by project teams with strategic oversight, and which require further evidence before governance consideration.
- Following approval, transition recommendations to execution owners with assumptions, risks, dependencies, and expected value clearly documented.
- Guide recommendations from assessment through governance and transition to execution, ensuring decision requests, supporting rationale, assumptions, risks, dependencies, expected value, and ownership are clearly documented; reassess recommendations when material facts change.
Portfolio Assessment Frameworks
- Own and continuously improve the GH&B value assessment methodology. Ensure recommendations are evaluated consistently across financial, commercial, operational, manufacturing, regulatory, and strategic dimensions.
- Define the decision questions, metrics, analytical views, and visualization capabilities needed to generate actionable portfolio insights; apply artificial intelligence-enabled analytics responsibly to identify patterns, outliers, margin erosion, capacity constraints, growth signals, and optimization opportunities while ensuring validated data lineage, transparent assumptions, and appropriate human judgment.
Portfolio Performance Dashboards & Visualizations
- Define the strategic decision questions, performance measures, and analytical views required to evaluate portfolio health, value creation, and emerging opportunities across GH&B.
- Shape and advance AI-enabled analytics and visualization capabilities that identify material portfolio patterns, outliers, margin erosion, capacity constraints, growth signals, and optimization opportunities.
- Establish scalable and reusable approaches that accelerate the path from business question to decision-ready insight, reducing reliance on bespoke manual analysis and enabling appropriate self-service access.
- Translate portfolio performance signals into actionable optimization opportunities, applying enterprise judgment to size, prioritize, and sequence opportunities within the portfolio pipeline.
- Set expectations for decision-grade portfolio insights by ensuring appropriate data validation, transparent assumptions, traceable data lineage, and human judgment before AI-generated outputs inform enterprise recommendations.
Enterprise Partnership and Influence
- Build and leverage trusted enterprise partnerships across Commercial, Manufacturing, Finance, Regulatory, Quality, Digital, and market organizations to shape integrated portfolio recommendations and advance shared priorities.
- Anticipate, surface, and facilitate resolution of cross-functional implications, dependencies, and trade-offs during recommendation development, strengthening alignment and reducing downstream execution risk.
- Integrate external perspectives into portfolio strategy by evaluating relevant market trends, competitive developments, evolving customer needs, and industry practices for their potential enterprise impact.
- Represent and advocate for the enterprise perspective when functional, geographic, or market priorities compete, using influence and sound judgment to guide stakeholders toward decisions that optimize long-term portfolio value.
