About the Company
Arn Autonomy is building autonomous, non-humanoid robotic systems to construct infrastructure in extreme, unstructured environments, starting with next-gen construction job sites. Our vision is to disrupt the $16 trillion global construction industry by pioneering a new Deep Tech philosophy that blends robotics, AI, and systems engineering at the frontier. Our flagship product, GRID, is an autonomous rebar-tying robot deployed with rebar and concrete contractors on live job sites.
About the Role
We're seeking an Electrical Engineer Intern to join the team building GRID, our rebar-tying mobile robot. You will design, prototype, test, and integrate multi-layer PCBAs for a robot that works on live construction sites, and you will see your boards go from schematic to running hardware in the field. This is a hands-on, cross-disciplinary role: you'll work alongside our mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams, with mentorship from senior engineers and a high degree of autonomy. Interns who grow with us may have opportunities to take on larger projects as GRID scales.
Responsibilities
PCBA Design & Prototyping: Design and prototype multi-layer PCBAs for GRID's subsystems, including motor drives, sensor interfaces, power distribution, and test fixtures
Bring-Up & Debug: Assemble, power up, and debug boards on the bench using oscilloscopes, DC supplies, and multimeters; perform root cause analysis on issues found during bench testing and system integration
System Integration: Work with mechanical and software engineers to integrate electronics, wiring, and harnesses into field-ready assemblies that withstand outdoor dust, vibration, temperature swings, and weather
Testing & Validation: Build test setups and procedures, and take part in field testing of GRID on construction job sites
Documentation: Deliver schematics, layout reviews, engineering studies, test results, and architecture documents so designs are traceable and reproducible
Design Reviews: Generate and present design concepts, and run design reviews with team members
Learning from Senior Engineers: Work alongside mentors to develop reliable electrical designs for a range of robotic tasks
Role Variability: This internship covers design, assembly, manufacturing, and test. Your mix of responsibilities will depend on the project and team, giving you broad exposure to robotics hardware development
Required
Completed a bachelor's or graduate degree from an accredited program in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a similar field, with no ongoing coursework, so you can commit to the internship full time and in person
Working knowledge of circuit design theory and core electrical engineering principles
Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, DC power supplies, and multimeters from coursework, labs, or personal projects
Ability to analyze problems and work with teammates to find well-reasoned solutions
A self-starter with proven examples of self-directed learning, who stays productive with minimal support
Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) for an internship lasting at least six months
Authorized to work in the United States
This is an in-person role, five days a week, in the San Francisco Bay Area. You must be based in the Bay Area or willing to relocate for the internship.
Preferred
Experience with PCB design software such as Altium, KiCad, or Eagle, including multi-layer layout
Prior prototyping or firmware experience on microcontrollers (C/C++ or similar)
Basic scripting in Python or MATLAB for test automation and data analysis
Familiarity with motor drives, battery and power systems, CAN or other field buses, and sensor interfacing
Exposure to mobile or outdoor robotic platforms, or to rugged, environmentally sealed electronics
Prior internship, co-op, or substantial project experience (robotics clubs and competition teams count)
Ability to rapidly learn, evaluate, and adopt new AI tools and platforms as project needs evolve
Benefits
Why join us:
Work on a real product: your designs ship on GRID, a robot deployed on live construction job sites
Hands-on experience in electrical design, integration, testing, and debugging on real hardware
Collaborate with mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineers in a small, fast-moving team
Mentorship and professional development from senior engineers
We're a startup moving fast, and being in the room together is how we build.
