As an Engineering Technician – Level 3 or Level 4 located in Promontory, UT, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.

The Engineering Technician performs a variety of hands-on support functions in a research and development analytical laboratory environment. This individual will conduct chemical analyses, prepare samples, operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation, and ensure high-quality data generation in support of development and production programs. The Engineering Technician will work closely with scientists and engineers, following written and verbal instructions to perform experiments and analytical procedures, and will increasingly work independently as proficiency is demonstrated. If hired, the employee will work with a variety of chemicals, including energetic materials, in accordance with established safety standards and procedures.

The Engineering Technician provides the critical service of transforming test plans and analytical requirements into clear, safe, and executable laboratory activities. You will acquire subject knowledge by engaging scientists and technicians, observing laboratory methods, referring to technical specifications, and reviewing analytical procedures and data. You will update and document test results, maintain laboratory records, and assist in keeping laboratory equipment and workspaces in good working order.

This position may work a 9/80 or 4/10 schedule, with every other Friday off for 9/80 schedules.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Perform hands-on chemical and analytical testing in an R&D laboratory environment
· Follow written procedures, electronic work instructions, and verbal guidance to set up and execute experiments
· Prepare samples (e.g., weighing, dilutions, extractions) and reagents in accordance with laboratory and safety requirements
· Prepare environmental samples in accordance with applicable EPA methods, which are highly prescriptive and allow for minimal deviation
· Operate, monitor, and perform basic maintenance on laboratory instruments (e.g., chromatographs, spectrometers, FTIR, balances, pH meters, ovens, etc.)
· Record, organize, and maintain accurate test data and laboratory notebooks
· Assist scientists with execution of test plans, method development activities, and routine analytical work
· Participate in laboratory housekeeping, including maintaining clean, orderly, and safe work areas
· Work collaboratively with a multifunctional team (scientists, engineers, technicians) to support program and customer needs
· Provide feedback on procedures and work instructions to improve clarity, safety, and efficiency
· Follow all laboratory safety practices, including proper handling of chemicals and energetic materials, use of PPE, and adherence to hazard communication requirements
· Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

· High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience
· Demonstrated experience working with chemicals or in a laboratory, production, or technical environment
· Ability to follow written procedures and verbal instructions to safely perform experiments and analytical tasks
· Basic understanding of chemistry principles and laboratory practices (e.g., solution preparation, measurements, good documentation practices)
· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
· Ability to work independently after appropriate training, as well as within cross-functional team environments
· Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software products for data entry, documentation, and reporting
· Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance

Basic Qualifications for Level 4:

· High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years additional education and/or related experience
· Demonstrated hands-on experience in an analytical or chemical laboratory environment
· Ability to operate and perform basic troubleshooting of common laboratory instruments
· Strong understanding of laboratory practices, data integrity, and safety requirements
· Ability to independently execute assigned experiments and analytical work after training
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear documentation of procedures and results
· Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

· Associate or bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related scientific/technical field
· Experience working as a laboratory or chemical technician in an analytical laboratory
· Experience preparing and/or testing environmental samples to EPA methods
· Experience with basic analytical techniques (e.g., titrations, spectrometry, chromatography)
· Experience with FTIR is a plus
· Experience working with or around energetic materials in a laboratory environment
· Experience in Aerospace or Defense, manufacturing, or R&D laboratory environments
· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced technical environment

Primary Level Salary Range: $57,500.00 - $95,900.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $68,300.00 - $113,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
