Role Overview

PIC Canada, a Genus Company, has an exciting opportunity for a Farm Production Manager to join our team in Carlyle, Saskatchewan.

This new, onsite leadership role supports the General Manager in coordinating day-to-day activities at our 2,000-sow, farrow-to-finish Genetic Nucleus operation and provides oversight across Nursery, Finisher, Testing/Selections, and Sales/Exports.

The Production Manager will lead two direct reports and approximately eight to ten indirect reports while supporting operations involving about 17,000 pigs across nursery and finishing. This role combines operational leadership with hands-on production support, people development, KPI management, recruitment involvement, goal setting, and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will be a disciplined, proactive people leader who can balance daily operational priorities with the development of a high-performing team. This position plays an important role in maintaining biosecurity, safety, environmental compliance, Canadian Pork Excellence standards, and PIC's animal care expectations. This role plays a key part in maintaining biosecurity, safety, environmental compliance, adherence to the Canadian Pork Excellence (CPE) Program, and the company's animal care standards while driving continuous improvement across farm operations.

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position based in Carlyle, Saskatchewan. Relocation support may be available for the right candidate. Travel of approximately 10% may be required based on business and production needs.

The annual salary range for this position is between $80,000 and $121,000 CAD. The amount provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

You Will

  • Lead and oversee Nursery, Finisher, Testing/Selections, and Sales/Exports operations to achieve production, quality, and operational objectives.
  • Manage and develop a team of supervisors and employees, including performance management, workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, and employee development.
  • Set departmental priorities, allocate resources, and drive team performance to meet production targets, service expectations, and business goals.
  • Develop and implement action plans to achieve key production and reproductive performance indicators on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Support budget development and accountability for the assigned area of responsibility, including feed management, production targets, and procurement of feed and supplies.
  • Coordinate animal flows and weekly volume objectives by genetic line to support operational and customer requirements.
  • Oversee breeding stock sales and exports to ensure a positive customer experience and successful delivery of animals.
  • Lead the execution of health management, health surveillance, and health reporting programs across the operation.
  • Maintain accurate and timely production, animal health, and operational records within all required software systems, including Genus One, D365, and PigTRACE.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, biosecurity protocols, safety programs, environmental regulations, animal welfare standards, and all applicable operational procedures.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of animal care, including proper nutrition, housing, health monitoring, treatment protocols, and humane handling practices.
  • Manage the Improvest program, ensuring regulatory compliance, accurate records, animal welfare standards, and shipment readiness.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair activities to support operational efficiency and facility performance.
  • Provide technical guidance and operational support to employees, colleagues, and customers as needed.
  • Perform hands-on production work when required, including animal care, treatments, processing, feeding, loading, washing, and other barn-related activities.
  • Complete and maintain training requirements related to the Canadian Pork Excellence (CPE) Program and support ongoing compliance with program standards.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, adaptability, accountability, and operational excellence throughout the operation.

Requirements

Required

  • Minimum of 2 years of livestock production experience with demonstrated results.
  • Proven ability and willingness to lead and manage at least 2 full-time employees, including performance management, coaching, training, and development.
  • Strong self-management, self-discipline, accountability, and a willingness to work alongside the team when operational needs require it.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and departments.
  • Proactive and adaptable, with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment while responding to changing operational priorities.
  • Ability to work the hours required to support farm operations, which may include weekends, evenings, holidays, and emergency situations.
  • Willingness to shower in and out of the facility daily and consistently follow all biosecurity protocols.
  • Willingness and ability to perform hands-on barn and production work while maintaining leadership responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and utilize production and business software applications.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% based on production and business needs.

Preferred

  • Previous leadership experience within swine production, livestock operations, or agricultural production environments.
  • Experience managing production KPIs, operational performance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of biosecurity, animal welfare, environmental compliance, and farm safety programs.
  • Experience with production-management systems, PigTRACE, D365, Genus One, or similar livestock record-management platforms.
  • Canadian Pork Excellence (CPE) certification or equivalent industry training.
  • Experience supporting employee recruitment, onboarding, training, and development programs.
  • Bilingual communication skills (if applicable to the operation and workforce).
