Project Overview: The Manager of Field Solutions leads the Field Solutions pillar, under the M&T Solutions Team, and owns the group's working relationship with project teams, with a deliberate focus on front-line construction management. That relationship is the mechanism of the job rather than a courtesy: it is the direct line from the project team to the Solutions Group when a problem arises, and it is what allows problems to surface early enough to be solved and later scale. The work follows a consistent arc. The incumbent sits visit and maintain strong relationships with superintendents, field engineers, and area managers to anticipate/inquire project issues/problem forming, agrees the diagnosis jointly with the project rather than presenting it to them, and develops a short-term solution that restores performance inside the current schedule. Once a fix is proven at the workfront, the incumbent judges whether it is a one-off or a candidate for permanence, and where standardization is warranted, scales it into a permanent solution other projects can adopt. Equally important is the discipline to leave a local fix local when standardizing it would add process without adding value. Alongside that core loop, the role provides cross-functional support to projects: constructability reviews, construction input into schedule development and improvement, productivity and innovation ideas tested at the workfront, coaching of the Solution Specialists rotating through the group, and construction-site support to Environmental, Safety & Health. Job Summary: In this role, you will act as a team advisor and program expert in the coordination of the construction workface effectiveness (CWE) team. You will own and develop programs that address the development needs of project field leaders and that mitigate constraints to workface improvement. You will analyze metrics and feedback and recommend improvements and initiatives to support alignment with business strategy and ensure program objectives are met. "This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership”. #LI-SM2 Major Responsibilities: • Own the Solutions Group's relationship with assigned project teams, concentrating on front-line construction managers, superintendents, and field engineers, and serve as the direct line from the project into the Solutions Group when a problem arises. • Work jointly with project teams to identify emerging execution problems early, before they consume float or turn into recovery efforts, and agree the diagnosis with the project rather than presenting conclusions to it. • Develop and deploy short-term solutions that restore performance at the workfront within the current project's schedule and constraints. • Judge which proven fixes warrant permanence, and scale those into standardized solutions other projects can adopt, including the method, the supporting tools, and the training needed to run them without the author present. • Contribute front-line construction judgment to constructability reviews, bringing execution reality into design and package definition before decisions are locked in. • Provide construction input into schedule development and improvement, challenging sequence, duration, and logic assumptions and working with Project Controls and Planning to close the gap between the plan and the workfront. • Generate, test, and prove productivity improvement and innovation ideas at the workfront, and carry the ones that hold up into the group's standard offering. • Coach the Solution Specialists rotating through the group, giving them field exposure, direct feedback, and a working understanding of how project teams make decisions under pressure. • Support Environmental, Safety & Health with construction site input, including site audits, reviews, and field-driven contributions to safety innovation. Education and Experience Requirements: • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field and fifteen or more years of relevant heavy industrial construction experience; or, in lieu of a degree, twenty or more years of progressively responsible field experience including substantial time in direct-hire field supervision. • Demonstrated experience at superintendent level or above on large capital projects, with accountability for a discipline program's schedule, quantities, and craft workforce. • Documented record of identifying an execution problem early with a project team and delivering a solution that measurably restored performance, including at least one instance where the solution was adopted beyond the originating project. Required Knowledge and Skills: • Credibility with front-line construction management, evidenced by a record of being brought into problems by superintendents and area managers rather than assigned to them. • Working command of construction work packaging, workfront availability, material and installation sequencing, and the field application of planning and scheduling data. • Ability to design a solution, prove it on a live workfront, and document it so another team can execute it without the author present, together with the judgment to distinguish a local fix from a portfolio-wide standard. • Fluency in reading and challenging schedules, quantity and progress reporting, and critical path analysis alongside Project Controls, and in contributing to constructability reviews. • Proven ability to build trust quickly across craft, engineering, planning, procurement, subcontractor, ESH, and client organizations, and to lead through influence rather than formal authority. • Willingness and ability to accept recurring short-term assignments across site and home office locations, domestic and potentially international, and to coach and develop others while doing so. • Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to brief senior project and client leadership on the state of a workfront and the plan to recover it. • Unqualified commitment to Bechtel's safety, ethics, quality, and compliance standards, with the judgment and confidence to stop work. Preferred Qualifications • LNG, petrochemical, semiconductor, or other large-scale process or advanced manufacturing plant execution experience. • Practical fluency with 3D model and construction data environments used for package definition and field progress measurement. • Experience developing and certifying a successor before rotating off an assignment. • Professional certification in construction management, project management, or a craft discipline, and bilingual English and Spanish capability. • 10+ years experienced with Bechtel and executing Bechtel projects. Working Conditions and Mobility This position is home office based with recurring deployment to active construction sites, where the incumbent will work in an environment that includes heavy equipment, elevated work areas, temperature extremes, and standard site personal protective equipment requirements. Candidates must be able to meet site medical and fitness-for-duty requirements and must be willing to travel and be assigned as the portfolio requires. Field allowances, overtime, and extended workweek premiums that apply to project field positions do not apply to this position; short-term assignment conditions apply instead.
