About the role
Dropped into a problem, owns it end-to-end, and ships exceptional products fast - with AI as a force multiplier. This is the profile we are hiring for on Client's internal R&D and AI team.
We are hiring Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) - senior, product-minded builders who are handed a goal, not a backlog, and own it from the first conversation to a shipped product.
You will join Client's internal R&D and AI team: a small, state-of-the-art group whose job is tovalidate ideas fast and turn them into exceptional products. You will embed directly with the product and business teams who have the problem, and deliver end-to-end.
This is a role for someone who is equal parts engineer, product thinker, and communicator: comfortable
shipping working software one hour and aligning a stakeholder on direction the next. We move quickly, build real things, and measure ourselves by the value we create.
WHY THIS ROLE
Small, senior R&D team. Real ownership. AI as leverage. No bureaucracy and no ticket queue - you get a
problem, the autonomy to solve it, and a mandate to use the best modern tooling and AI to build what would normally take a much larger team. You operate like the founder of your project - closer to a startup CTO than to a ticket-taker.
Who you are
• A high-agency builder who treats "figure it out" as a feature, not a bug.
• Genuinely curious about the business problem, not just the technology.
• Calm with ambiguity and energized by a blank page.
• A clear, direct communicator who builds trust with teammates and stakeholders fast.
• Someone who wants to work alongside other top-tier engineers on hard, modern problems.
What you'll own
• Projects, end-to-end. Take an idea or a problem from discovery -> design -> build -> ship -> iterate, with
minimal oversight. You are accountable for the outcome, not just the code.
• Embedding with the teams who own the problem. Sit close to HP's product and business teams,
understand what actually matters, and translate ambiguous needs into working software.
• Build fast, then harden. Stand up prototypes in days to validate an idea, then evolve the winners into
robust, fully realized products.
• Scope, sequence, and protect delivery. Break an open-ended problem into clear workstreams,
sequence them, make explicit trade-offs between scope, speed, and quality, and remove blockers before
they cost you.
• The whole stack. Work across frontend, backend, data, infrastructure, and AI - picking the right tool for
the job rather than the one you know best.
• AI as a force multiplier. Use AI coding tools and agentic workflows aggressively to design, build, and
ship more - and faster - than a traditional team would.
• AI-native products. Integrate LLMs, agents, retrieval, and real-time / voice capabilities into real
products, with the judgment to know when AI is the answer and when it isn't.
• Close the loop with the business. Own a measurable outcome, not just a deliverable - track the metrics
that matter, understand how each project creates value, and let impact guide what you build next.
• Feed learnings back into R&D. Share what worked and what didn't, and codify the patterns that work
into reusable tools, playbooks, and building blocks the whole team can build on.
Must-haves
• Deep seniority (7+ years). A track record of owning significant systems or products end-to-end.
Evidence of real delivery matters more than a job title.
• True end-to-end / product engineering. You can take something from zero to one and all the way to a
shipped, live product by yourself - design, implement, deploy, and operate it - across the full stack.
• AI-native to the core. This goes without saying for us: agentic coding tools like Cursor, Claude Code,
and Codex are part of your daily workflow, not an occasional experiment - you build with AI by default.
You stay current with a fast-moving ecosystem and fold new capabilities into how you work the moment
they land.
• Problem decomposition. Handed a vague, open-ended problem, you structure it into a clear plan,
reason about the cost and consequence of each option, and prioritize ruthlessly toward impact.
• High autonomy and ownership. You thrive in ambiguity, set your own direction, unblock yourself, and
consistently deliver without being managed.
• Exceptional communication. Outstanding written and spoken English. You can run a working session,
present a direction, write a crisp doc, and align people who don't think like engineers. For an FDE this is
non-negotiable - it is half the job.
• Bias for speed and impact. You ship, learn, and iterate quickly. You would rather validate an idea in a
week than perfect a plan for a month.
• Business sense. You understand how businesses work, what the metrics mean, and how the thing you
are building actually creates value - and you use that to prioritize.
• Remote-ready, Americas overlap. A reliable remote setup and working hours in the UTC-7 to UTC-3
band, so collaboration with the team and stakeholders is real-time.
Bonus points
• Experience building AI / LLM products that shipped to real users - agentic workflows, RAG, evaluation
frameworks, guardrails, and real-time / voice.
• A 0-to-1, startup, founder, or consulting background - you have worn many hats and been close to
customers.
• A portfolio of side projects, open source, or shipped work that shows range and initiative.
• Comfort being embedded with non-technical stakeholders and business teams.
• A valid US visa is a plus.
