Role Description The Freelance Inventor Design Engineer will work on contract assignments for leading industrial and engineering customers, focusing on mechanical design and product development using Autodesk Inventor. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating and modifying 3D models and assemblies, preparing detailed drawings, collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams, and ensuring designs meet technical, safety, and regulatory requirements. The engineer will participate in design reviews, provide technical input on manufacturability and cost, and maintain organized design documentation and version control. This is a contract, hybrid role based in Sweden, where on-site presence at customer locations is required alongside some work-from-home flexibility. The position suits independent professionals who can manage deliverables, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and adapt to different customer environments.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical design skills with Autodesk Inventor, including 3D modeling, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings.
• Experience with related CAD and PLM tools (e.g., CATIA, NX, CREO/ProE, or similar) to support integration with broader engineering workflows.
• Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and design-for-manufacture and design-for-assembly best practices.
• Ability to interpret technical specifications, standards, and customer requirements, and translate them into robust design solutions.
• Proficiency in documenting designs, maintaining configuration and version control, and preparing clear, accurate technical reports.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, project managers, and suppliers.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently on contract projects, manage time and priorities, and meet agreed milestones and quality targets.
• Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline) or equivalent professional experience.
• Previous experience in Automotive, Aerospace, industrial equipment, or similar engineering sectors is highly beneficial.
