Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
This is a significant opportunity to lead one of New Zealand’s premier private hospitals. As General Manager, you will set the strategic direction and oversee Grace Hospital’s overall performance, with a focus on exceptional patient care, strong clinical outcomes and sustainable commercial success.
Working closely with the Board, shareholders, specialists and the Senior Leadership Team, you will foster a high-performing, values-led culture where people are supported to do their best work. You will also strengthen Grace Hospital’s position as a provider of choice for patients, clinicians and the wider community.
This hands-on executive role balances strategic leadership with operational excellence across clinical quality, patient safety, financial sustainability, workforce capability, governance and risk. You will help shape the hospital’s future through service expansion, surgical capacity, capital projects, technology and considered business opportunities. This is a full-time permanent position based at Grace Hospital in Tauranga.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Executive leadership experience in a hospital, healthcare or similarly complex service environment, with a track record of delivering strategy and operational performance.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including experience with budgets, business planning, performance improvement and sustainable growth.
- An inclusive leadership style, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and build a culture of trust, accountability and collaboration.
- The credibility to build effective relationships with Boards, shareholders, specialists, clinicians, funders and other external partners.
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale organisational change, service expansion, capital projects or transformation initiatives.
- The ability to identify opportunities, balance strategic and operational priorities, and make sound decisions in complex environments.
- A visible, values-led approach, with resilience, integrity and sound judgement under pressure.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in health, business, management or a related discipline. A postgraduate leadership or management qualification will be highly regarded.
- Experience working with or reporting to a Board, along with knowledge of private hospitals, surgical services, credentialed specialists or healthcare accreditation, would be advantageous.
