Reporting Relationship: Divisional Vice President, Operations

Property: The Placencia Resort (90 guestrooms)

Property Type: Beachfront resort with food & beverage outlets, pool, spa and marina

Address: Maya Beach, Placencia Peninsula, Stann Creek District, Belize

Property Size: 90 guestrooms (approximately 30 guestrooms operating during the 2027 renovation)

Direct Reports: Executive Committee, including Operations Manager, Food & Beverage Manager and Staff Accountant

Compensation package:

Base Salary: $4,000 USD per month (gross; subject to applicable Belize income tax and Social Security deductions)

Offer will be aligned based on experience and qualifications within the approved salary range

Benefits: Paid annual vacation, paid sick leave and paid public holidays in accordance with the Belize Labour Act, plus Social Security coverage through the Social Security Board.

About the property: The Placencia Resort is a 90-room beachfront resort on Maya Beach along Belize's Placencia Peninsula, near the Belize Barrier Reef and the Maya Mountains. The resort offers one-, two- and three-bedroom accommodations, beachfront villas and suites, a pool with a swim-up bar, an overwater pier bar, a spa and a marina. Throughout 2027, the resort will undergo a full renovation and repositioning to an internationally recognized brand standard, while continuing to welcome guests with approximately 30 guestrooms, its food & beverage outlets, pool and spa.

Position Summary: The General Manager is responsible for the full operation of The Placencia Resort, including rooms, food & beverage, spa, sales, engineering, human resources and accounting. The General Manager will lead the resort through its transition to Remington Hospitality management and a full renovation during 2027, protecting guest experience and financial results while the resort operates at reduced inventory.

This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role. The ideal candidate has hotel opening or transition experience and a proven record of building structure, processes, staffing and operational systems. The General Manager will partner closely with Ownership, Remington leadership and the renovation team, and will build and develop a strong local leadership team.

Key Performance Indicators:

Performance will be measured against a combination of financial, operational, guest and team objectives, including:

  • Revenue, RevPAR and market share performance
  • Gross operating profit (GOP) and flow-through against budget
  • Guest satisfaction and online reputation scores
  • Brand standards and quality audit results
  • Achievement of transition and renovation milestones, with minimal guest disruption
  • Team member engagement, retention and leadership development
  • Compliance with Belize labour, health, safety and licensing requirements
  • Accuracy and timeliness of forecasts, financial reporting and owner communications

Core Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Development
  • Effectively lead the Executive Committee to reach the goals of the property.
  • Recruit, onboard, coach and develop leaders to exceed performance expectations, with a focus on building local talent and succession.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, service excellence, respect and open communication.
  • Ensure fair and consistent application of company policies and the Belize Labour Act.
  • Transition & Operational Structure
  • Lead the transition of hotel operations to Remington Hospitality systems, policies and standards.
  • Establish operating structure, staffing models, standard operating procedures and internal controls across all departments.
  • Implement property management, point-of-sale, accounting and HR systems in partnership with Remington support teams.
  • Take a hands-on approach in daily operations, supporting departments as business needs require.
  • Renovation & Repositioning
  • Partner with Ownership, Remington leadership and the project team to support the full renovation and repositioning of the resort.
  • Maintain service standards and guest satisfaction while operating approximately 30 guestrooms, food & beverage outlets, pool and spa during the renovation.
  • Coordinate construction phasing with operations to protect guest experience, team member safety and revenue.
  • Prepare the team and property to meet new brand standards at reopening.
  • Financial Performance
  • Develop and assure achievement of hotel revenues and profits, utilizing forecasting, P&L management and RevPAR.
  • Prepare annual budgets and forecasts and manage labour and operating costs, especially during reduced inventory.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting and recommendations to Ownership and Remington leadership.
  • Guest Experience, Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure product quality supports future room night, event and food & beverage bookings and pricing goals.
  • Ensure the property is compliant in all departments, including health, safety, licensing and employment requirements.
  • Build positive relationships with the Placencia community, local partners, vendors and government agencies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management or related business field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of hotel leadership experience, including General Manager or Hotel Manager experience in a resort environment.
  • Hotel opening, transition or renovation experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success establishing structure, processes, staffing and operational systems.
  • Strong financial acumen, including forecasting, budgeting and P&L management.
  • Adaptable, resourceful and hands-on, with the ability to lead through change.
  • Strong business communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written; Spanish is a plus.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations; familiarity with Belize or Caribbean employment practices is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and hotel systems.
  • Proven commitment and professionalism in a 24-hour, 7-day a week operation.
  • Ability to maintain staff and guest confidentiality at all times.
  • Regular attendance according to established guidelines, with flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays based on business needs.
