Tūhoe Medical Centres

$700–$750 per session

A better way to practise medicine

Tūhoe has a clear vision for the health and wellbeing of its people. Over 30 eco-village communities are planned, and several are already complete. Through Hauora by Hapū, whānau lead the response to chronic illness, not the provider. Our own charter school is changing how the next generation sees its health and itself.

General practice sits amongst this shift, not at the centre. We are looking for GPs who want to do good clinical work, build lasting relationships with whānau, and practise with real support around them.

The offer

• $700–$750 per session, reflecting the value of experienced general practice

• Nursing, Health Care Assistant, reception and administration support

• Protected time for clinical administration and follow-up, with extra time paid when it is needed

• Permanent, part-time, fixed days, or a split across sites

• Wider whānau wellbeing services around the practice

• Relocation and housing support by discussion

The work

You will provide full-breadth primary care across acute, chronic and complex presentations. You will build continuing relationships with patients and whānau. The work centres on prevention and earlier intervention, and on connecting clinical care with the wider factors shaping wellbeing.

The clinical need here is real. So is the chance to see the effect of your work over time, often across generations of the same whānau.

What we are building

Our model is still developing. We are strengthening HCA capability, clinical support, administration systems and the services around general practice. The aim is that clinical time stays clinical and no GP carries everything alone. Your experience will help shape what comes next.

About you

• Vocationally registered in General Practice in New Zealand, or eligible for vocational registration

• Confident across the breadth and complexity of general practice

• Committed to relationship-based care

• A clear, respectful communicator who works well in a multidisciplinary team

• Willing to listen, learn and build relationships in a Tūhoe setting

Experience in Māori, rural or community-based primary care is valuable. We don't expect you to know our communities when you arrive. What matters is clinical quality, respect, and a willingness to build relationships properly.

The place

Te Urewera, rivers, lakes, native forest and Ohope coastline are close to home. Hunting, hiking, fishing and walking are close at hand. Commutes are short and communities are small. A good GP is genuinely valued here, and there is room for work and life to sit alongside each other.

Start with a conversation

You may be considering a permanent role or a few fixed sessions, or simply wondering whether there is another way to practise. Either way, talking to us commits you to nothing.
