Global Buyer (Services)

The Global Buyer (Services) is responsible for strategic sourcing, category management, and supplier governance for operational, environmental, facilities, and maintenance-related services across multiple locations.

This role creates value through total cost optimization, service standardization, supplier performance management, contract negotiation, and risk mitigation. The position helps ensure the reliable delivery of critical services that support operational continuity, equipment uptime, workplace safety, and regulatory compliance. The Global Buyer I partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Facilities, Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), Finance, Legal, and other key stakeholders to ensure services are sourced and delivered in a timely, cost-effective, and reliable manner. The ideal candidate brings strong category management and strategic sourcing expertise, a continuous-improvement mindset, and demonstrated experience managing complex MRO service categories and supplier networks within a multi-site industrial or manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing & Outside Services Management

• Lead end-to-end sourcing and category management activities for external service categories, including:
• Facilities services, such as janitorial, security, and grounds maintenance
• Environmental services, including waste remediation and disposal, recycling, water treatment, and compliance-related services
• Operational services, including industrial cleaning, inspections, uniforms, specialty maintenance, calibration, and repair services
• Develop and execute category strategies that balance cost, service, quality, risk, and standardization objectives.
• Identify opportunities for supplier consolidation, scope bundling, service standardization, and preferred supplier programs across multiple locations.
• Source, evaluate, select, and manage suppliers to achieve competitive pricing, dependable service, and long-term value.
• Lead competitive sourcing events and negotiate commercial terms, multi-site Master Service Agreements (MSAs), and other contractual arrangements aligned with business objectives.

Supplier Relationship & Performance Management

• Develop and maintain productive relationships with key MRO service providers and contractors.
• Establish clear expectations related to service quality, responsiveness, cost, safety, and contractual performance.
• Conduct supplier business reviews, performance evaluations, and quality audits to ensure compliance with contractual requirements, service-level expectations, and performance metrics.
• Address supplier performance issues and coordinate corrective actions as needed.
• Monitor market conditions, supplier capacity, service availability, and supply risks to proactively reduce the potential for operational disruptions.

Contract Negotiation & Management

• Negotiate competitive contract terms, including pricing structures, productivity commitments, service levels, lead times, rate schedules, and other commercial provisions.
• Partner with Legal, Finance, Compliance, and business stakeholders to ensure contracts meet organizational, regulatory, and risk-management requirements.
• Regularly benchmark, evaluate, and renegotiate agreements to generate ongoing cost savings, productivity improvements, and enhanced service performance.
• Support contract governance and ensure supplier adherence to negotiated terms and conditions.

Cost Management & Value Creation

• Deliver measurable savings, cost avoidance, and productivity improvements through strategic sourcing, scope optimization, demand management, standardization, benchmarking, and supplier optimization.
• Identify opportunities to reduce total cost of ownership through negotiations, alternative sourcing strategies, process improvements, and supplier innovation.
• Partner with Finance and Operations to support budgeting, spend forecasting, cost-control initiatives, and financial planning.
• Work with stakeholders to transition appropriate services from reactive approaches to planned or preventive service models.
• Track and report savings, cost avoidance, contract compliance, supplier performance, and category metrics to leadership.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Serve as a primary procurement partner for Operations, Maintenance, Facilities, and EH&S regarding MRO and service-related requirements.
• Participate in site management and operational meetings as required.
• Translate business and operational requirements into effective sourcing strategies, statements of work, and supplier solutions.
• Support site projects by ensuring required services are sourced and available in accordance with project schedules and performance expectations.
• Contribute to initiatives focused on equipment uptime, operational reliability, safety, maintenance productivity, and service quality.

Risk Management & Compliance

• Ensure procurement activities comply with applicable policies, ethical standards, contractual requirements, and regulatory obligations.
• Identify and mitigate risks related to contractor availability, contractor safety, supplier quality, regulatory compliance, commercial exposure, and supply continuity.
• Proactively manage supplier and supply chain risks within assigned categories.
• Support supplier qualification activities, audits, compliance reviews, and corrective-action processes as required.

Process Improvement & Digital Enablement

• Lead continuous improvement efforts related to procurement processes, workflows, sourcing practices, and category governance.
• Establish greater consistency and transparency in service scopes, statements of work, rate cards, contracting frameworks, and supplier requirements.
• Leverage ERP, sourcing, and procurement systems to improve spend visibility, compliance, efficiency, and reporting.
• Promote category management, sourcing, contracting, and supplier management best practices across locations.
• Improve operational efficiency within the requisition-to-purchase-order process by proactively managing demand queues and backlogs, with a target conversion time of less than one business day.
• Evaluate and adopt AI-enabled and digital solutions that streamline procurement activities, shorten cycle times, improve decision-making, and increase visibility into MRO spend and supplier performance.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field required.
• Professional procurement certification, such as CPSM or CIPS, preferred.
• Minimum of five years of sourcing and procurement experience, preferably with significant responsibility for MRO services and contractor management in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated experience managing MRO categories, supplier portfolios, and multi-site spend.
• Proven success negotiating Master Service Agreements, Service Level Agreements, rate structures, and other complex commercial agreements.
• Strong experience in supplier performance management, cost reduction, strategic sourcing, and continuous improvement.
• Working knowledge of MRO, facilities, and environmental services, including contractor safety and compliance requirements.
• Strong understanding of total cost of ownership, category management, supplier risk, and strategic procurement principles.
