GPU Architect
Cambridge, UK | Onsite | Perm | Visa sponsorship possible
We are looking for a GPU Architect to join our client, a global organisation working on the forefront of advanced computing and semiconductor innovation, developing next-gen GPU technology. An excellent opportunity to influence future GPU architecture within a highly technical, research-driven R&D environment.
The successful GPU Architect will work at the intersection of hardware architecture, graphics algorithms and high-performance computing, as well as help define how advanced graphics and compute workloads are mapped onto future GPU architectures, balancing performance, image quality, latency, power efficiency and hardware complexity.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead architectural research and development for next-generation GPU and graphics platforms.
- Define and evaluate GPU architecture approaches for advanced graphics and compute workloads.
- Analyse how rendering and graphics algorithms can be efficiently mapped onto GPU hardware to improve performance, image quality, latency and power efficiency.
- Investigate architectural requirements for technologies including ray tracing, path tracing, physically based rendering, screen-space techniques and image reconstruction.
- Work closely with hardware, software, graphics and research teams to translate algorithms and emerging technologies into viable GPU architecture solutions.
- Evaluate architectural trade-offs through performance analysis, modelling and technical research, contributing to future GPU technology roadmaps.
Required Experience & Skills
Essential:
- 5+ years of professional experience in GPU architecture, graphics hardware, computer architecture, graphics algorithms or a closely related field.
- Strong understanding of modern GPU architecture, graphics pipelines and massively parallel computing.
- Proven experience analysing, designing or optimising GPU architectures or graphics hardware/software systems.
- Strong understanding of GPU performance characteristics, including parallel execution, memory hierarchy, bandwidth, latency, scheduling and power efficiency.
- Experience with advanced graphics technologies such as Ray Tracing, Path Tracing, Physically Based Rendering, screen-space techniques, image reconstruction or related areas.
- Strong understanding of how graphics algorithms and workloads map onto GPU hardware.
- Strong C/C++ programming and algorithm design capabilities.
- Hands-on experience with GPU or graphics technologies such as Vulkan, OpenGL/OpenGL ES, DirectX 11/12, Metal, OpenCL or CUDA.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Graphics or a related technical discipline.
Desirable:
- PhD or equivalent research experience in GPU architecture, computer graphics, computer architecture or a related field.
- Experience with GPU hardware/software co-design.
- Experience with GPU microarchitecture, execution units, SIMD/SIMT architectures, cache and memory systems or GPU scheduling.
- Experience with architectural modelling, simulation or performance modelling.
- Commercial experience developing GPU, graphics hardware, semiconductor or SoC products.
- Experience working on future GPU generations or defining new graphics hardware capabilities.
- Publications, patents, white papers or technical contributions in GPU architecture, graphics or computer architecture.
Recruiter's Note
I'm particularly interested in speaking with GPU Architects, Graphics Architects, GPU Hardware Architects, GPU Microarchitects, Graphics Hardware Engineers, GPU Performance Architects and Senior/Principal GPU Engineers with experience working close to the hardware/software boundary. Candidates with experience in GPU microarchitecture, graphics hardware, architectural modelling, hardware/software co-design, advanced rendering algorithms or future GPU platform development will stand out.
