Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group

Band 9 | Hybrid (based at any of our three hospital sites) | Relocation support available

Most procurement leaders inherit a service. This one gets to build it.

Overview

In May 2025, three of East Anglia's acute hospitals came together as one Group: the Norfolk and Norwich, James Paget and Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn. Together they have around 2,200 beds and more than 16,000 staff, serving around 1.2 million people across a largely rural and coastal area, from King's Lynn to Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.

Now the Group is looking for its first Group Procurement Director. This is a new role, created to bring three established procurement teams together into a single, trusted Group service.

Above and beyond procurement

You'll lead around 50 colleagues across three Trust teams who have worked together as a Collaborative for several years, so the relationships are already there. Success in year one means a settled, combined team, a new governance structure, and stakeholder relationships built on good data.

The likely future model is a single team organised by category, serving all three Trusts, with business partners on each site. How it's designed and delivered will be yours to lead. You'll report to James Taylor, Chief Finance Officer at James Paget, with the CFOs of all three Trusts behind the appointment.

Why now?

The Group is investing in its future, and procurement will be at the heart of it. Over the next few years, it is:

  • consolidating its corporate services
  • launching a shared Electronic Patient Record in 2027
  • delivering New Hospital Programme rebuilds at James Paget and Queen Elizabeth hospitals, running to 2033

Early priorities include aligning contracts across the three Trusts, strengthening contract management, building data and analytics capability, and reducing reliance on outsourced specialist advice.

Who we're looking for

We'd love to hear from procurement leaders from the NHS or wider regulated sectors who bring:

  • senior leadership experience in a large, complex organisation, with MCIPS or equivalent standing
  • experience of bringing teams together across more than one organisation or site
  • a record of delivering savings and value without compromising quality
  • confidence working with Boards and executive teams

If this sounds like your next step, we'd like to hear from you.

What's on offer

  • Agenda for Change Band 9
  • Hybrid working, with around three days a week on site
  • Flexibility to be based at any of the three hospitals
  • Relocation support
  • The chance to shape procurement across one of the NHS's newest hospital groups
