About The Role

  • Train a cohort of up to four trainee guide dogs at a time over a structured 20-week training cycle.
  • Work with adult dogs that have been purpose-bred and raised by our professional breeding and puppy-raising team, ensuring a strong foundation for advanced training.
  • Deliver all client training on a domiciliary basis (in the client’s home) over a three-week training cycle, working Monday through Friday.
  • When training occurs outside the Vancouver region, travel to the client’s home may include fixed-wing aircraft, float plane, ferry, and/or motor vehicle.
  • Travel is typically scheduled with departure on Monday and return on Friday for each of the two weekends during the training period.
  • If you choose to remain at the training location over the weekend, travel expenses will be covered for your significant other to join you.
  • All GDMI’s complete regular, annual aftercare visits with our graduate partnership each year across both British Columbia and Alberta.
  • Support the broader team by assisting with public awareness events and engaging with community groups, including service clubs and other interested organizations.
  • Participate in outreach efforts to promote the organization’s mission and programs.
  • Opportunities to contribute with International Guide Dog Federation activities, conferences and committees are encouraged and supported.

The Guide Dog Training Team is based at our brand-new Breeding and Training Centre, located at 7061 Ladner Trunk Road, Delta, British Columbia.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a GDMI Certification from an IGDF member organization.
  • Able demonstrate that you can work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Have strong organizational skills, time management, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate openness to continuous learning, and professional development

Contract & Work Authorization

  • This position is offered as a renewable three-year contract, with strong potential for a permanent position following successful completion of the initial contract term.
  • Employment is subject to obtaining a valid Canadian work visa.
  • BC & Alberta Guide Dogs will cover all reasonable visa and travel expenses. Upon arrival, the organization will also provide coverage for your first two months of rent.
