ODS ENGINEERING

Head of Electrical Engineering – ODS Modular

Who We Are

ODS Engineering is a leading Irish engineering and manufacturing company delivering high-quality off-site and modular construction solutions across the Data Centre and Energy Infrastructure sectors across Europe.

Through our ODS Modular Division, we design, manufacture, integrate and fully test factory-built modular electrical and M&E solutions from our Off-Site Manufacturing (OSM) facility in Thurles. Our delivery model removes the requirement for traditional site-based construction, enabling complex, mission-critical infrastructure to be delivered entirely within a controlled, safe and predictable factory environment.

As ODS continues to scale its modular and data centre portfolio, we are growing our in-house Electrical Engineering department. Head of Electrical Engineering is one capable of leading design, standardising delivery, and acting as a genuine technical differentiator in front of our customers. This is a newly created senior leadership position and a rare opportunity to shape that department from the ground up.

The Opportunity

The Head of Electrical Engineering will be the most senior technical authority for electrical engineering across ODS Modular, reporting into the divisional manager and working closely with all departments in the business such as Commercial, Estimating, Operations and Sales.

This is a leadership and a technical role. You will be accountable for building the electrical engineering department — its people, structure, standards and long-term strategy — while remaining a genuinely hands-on engineer, comfortable walking the factory floor. Your technical credibility will be a core part of how ODS wins and delivers business: supporting customer engagements and holding subcontractors to account on technical compliance.

This role is suited to an experienced electrical engineering leader who has previously built or scaled a technical department, and who wants to combine strategic ownership with continued, direct technical involvement — rather than a purely desk-based leadership role.

Why Join ODS Modular?

  • Build a department from the ground up — define the structure, standards and long-term direction of ODS's in-house Electrical Engineering capability
  • Genuine influence over ODS's modular product strategy, technical standards and customer-facing proposition
  • Fully off-site leadership role based at ODS's Off-Site Manufacturing facility in Thurles — no site rotations or travel-heavy delivery demands
  • Direct commercial impact — your technical judgement will shape how ODS estimates, prices and negotiates its modular electrical scope
  • Long-term, senior role within a stable and growing Irish engineering and manufacturing organisation
  • Significant manufacturing scale and a growing data centre and modular portfolio Europe

Key Responsibilities

Departmental Leadership & Strategy

  • Build and lead the Electrical Engineering department at ODS Modular from the ground up — defining team structure, hiring, and developing engineers at all levels as the department scales
  • Set the strategic direction, technical roadmap and long-term vision for electrical engineering across ODS's modular business, aligned to company growth plans
  • Establish engineering standards, processes and governance — including design standards, review/sign-off procedures and quality frameworks — to support repeatable, scalable modular delivery
  • Act as the senior escalation point for complex technical, design and interface issues across all projects and disciplines
  • Own succession planning and capability development within the department, mentoring senior and junior engineers and building bench strength for future growth

Technical Leadership

  • Hold deep, current technical expertise across ODS's full modular product range, including LV/MV distribution, UPS, generators, earthing, controls and auxiliary services, and how each is physically built and integrated
  • Provide senior technical oversight and sign-off of electrical deliverables — SLDs, schematics, layouts, cable schedules, I/O lists and technical specifications — produced by the wider team
  • Resolve complex design and factory integration issues working alongside production, testing and commissioning teams
  • Drive continuous improvement, standardisation and design-for-manufacture initiatives to enhance repeatability and quality across future modular platforms
  • Technical evaluation and supporting PM’s with governance of electrical subcontracted partners

Customer & Sales Support

  • Act as a senior technical authority in front of customers, supporting sales, tenders and technical presentations — your expertise is a key differentiator in how ODS wins business
  • Represent ODS's electrical engineering capability credibly and confidently in client meetings, technical clarifications and design reviews
  • Build customer and partner confidence in ODS's modular delivery model through clear, authoritative technical communication

Estimating & Commercial Input

  • Work closely with the Commercial and Estimating teams to review tender documentation and client specifications at estimate stage, ensuring technical scope is fully and accurately understood
  • Identify technical risk, scope gaps and design assumptions early in the estimating process so that pricing reflects true project scope
  • Provide technical input to cost build-ups and pricing strategy, helping ODS develop competitive and accurate bids

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering; Chartered Engineer status (CEng or equivalent) desirable.
  • 10+ years' experience in electrical system design and delivery within data centres, power, energy, industrial or mission-critical infrastructure, with significant time spent in a senior or leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrable experience building, structuring and leading an electrical engineering team or department, including recruitment and the development of engineers at multiple levels.
  • Proven ability to set technical strategy and direction for an engineering function, and to translate that strategy into standards, processes and delivery outcomes.
  • Genuinely hands-on, with a track record of direct, detailed involvement in factory or site-based electrical installation — comfortable and credible on the shop floor, not solely in a design-office setting.
  • Proven experience designing and overseeing electrical systems incorporating LV/MV distribution, UPS systems, generators, earthing and control systems.
  • Experience supporting commercial or estimating functions, including reviewing specifications and tender documents to inform accurate cost estimates and pricing.
  • Confident and credible communicating directly with customers, including in sales, tender and technical review settings.
  • Experience with off-site manufacture, modular systems or factory-based delivery, and familiarity with data centre electrical architectures and redundancy philosophies.
  • Proficiency in EPLAN, AutoCAD, Revit or equivalent electrical design tools.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and written and verbal communication skills, with a practical, detail-driven and commercially aware approach.

Salary & Benefits

  • Highly competitive senior leadership salary, aligned with experience and level of responsibility.
  • Permanent, full-time position within a stable, growing Irish engineering organisation.
  • Fully off-site role based at ODS's Off-Site Manufacturing facility in Ireland, with no site rotations or travel-heavy delivery demands.
  • A genuine opportunity to shape a new department, its people, standards and long-term direction.
  • Direct influence over ODS's modular product strategy, customer proposition and commercial approach to electrical scope.
  • Strong emphasis on career longevity, professional development and long-term progression.
  • Supportive, collaborative senior leadership culture within a multi-disciplinary engineering organisation.
  • Relocation support considered for suitable international candidates.
