About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Industrial Electrician to join our team.
This is not a standard construction electrician role. The position involves a mix of electrical installation, control panel work, instrumentation, controls, communications, commissioning and fault finding.
You will work across the full project lifecycle, from workshop preparation and installation through to commissioning and handover.
The role includes a mix of site, workshop and office-based work, and you will work closely with our engineers, project managers and other trades.
Some projects require travel to regional, interstate or remote locations, so you must be comfortable working away from Sydney when required.
Key Responsibilities
Your work will include:
- Electrical installation and commissioning of commercial and industrial plant
- Control panel wiring, modification, testing and fault finding
- Installation and connection of motors, pumps, VSDs, heat pumps and associated plant
- Installation, wiring and testing of field instrumentation and sensors
- Modbus / RS485 communications setup, testing and fault finding
- PLC and HMI commissioning, including I/O checks, point-to-point testing and basic diagnostics
- Ethernet and Modbus TCP communications
- Control circuit and interlock testing
- Point-to-point I/O proving
- Electrical fault finding and diagnostics
- Testing of motors, control panels and associated equipment
- Reading and interpreting electrical schematics, control drawings, single-line diagrams, cable schedules and I/O schedules
- Testing and commissioning systems prior to handover
- Assisting engineers during controls and BMS commissioning
- Marking up drawings for as-built documentation
- Completing commissioning records, test sheets, ITPs and site documentation
- Assisting with panel builds, workshop preparation and pre-fabrication between site projects
Controls & Commissioning
Controls and commissioning are an important part of this position.
You should be comfortable working with:
- PLC-controlled equipment
- HMIs
- Modbus RTU
- RS485 networks
- Modbus TCP / Ethernet
- Remote I/O
- VSDs
- Temperature, pressure, flow and other field instrumentation
- BMS and equipment interfaces
- Control circuits, relays and interlocks
PLC programming is not required, as programming is generally handled by our engineers.
However, you should be comfortable connecting to PLC/HMI systems, checking I/O, confirming field devices, testing communications and assisting with commissioning and fault finding.
About You
We are looking for someone who is practical, technically capable and comfortable taking responsibility for their work.
You should have:
- Relevant electrical trade qualification
- Current NSW Electrical Licence
- Level 2 ASP accreditation / authorisation in NSW
- Construction White Card
- Current driver's licence
- Experience in commercial, industrial or heavy commercial electrical work
- Strong electrical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with control panels and control wiring
- Experience with Modbus / RS485 communications
- Experience with PLC and HMI commissioning
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
- Sound understanding of motors, VSDs, control circuits and industrial equipment
- Good understanding of electrical testing, isolation and safe work practices
- Sound knowledge of Australian electrical standards and WHS requirements
- Ability to work independently when required
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Basic computer skills and willingness to complete project documentation
- Willingness to travel and work away from home when required

Site Travel
This is not a metro-only role.
While the position is based in Sydney, some projects are located in regional NSW, interstate and remote locations.
You must be willing to travel and, when required, work away from home for several days or longer depending on the project.
Accommodation and project travel arrangements will be managed as applicable to the project.
Documentation & Office Work
This role is not purely on the tools.
Between site projects, you may also assist with:
- Commissioning documentation
- Test sheets and ITPs
- As-built mark-ups
- Cable and I/O schedules
- Material take-offs
- Equipment schedules
- Job records and site photos
- Workshop preparation and panel assembly
You don't need to be an engineer or electrical designer, but you should be comfortable working with technical documentation and recording your work properly.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and can think through problems rather than simply follow instructions.
You should be comfortable dealing with clients, project managers, engineers and other trades, and understand that a job is not finished until it has been properly installed, tested, commissioned and documented.
You should also be comfortable moving between the tools, the control panel, the plant room and the office.
This role would suit an electrician who wants to develop further into industrial controls, automation and commissioning, while still remaining hands-on.
