Staff Position Description Position Title: Interventional Radiology Technologist (IR Tech) Position Code: TechIR-6146 Department: Imaging Safety Sensitive: YES Reports to: Imaging Supervisor Exempt Status: NO $10,000 Sign On Bonus (must have 1 year of experience) + Relocation Bonus available! Position Purpose: All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI’s vision of providing the region’s best clinical care and patient service through an environment that fosters respect for others and pride in performance. Under the direction of the radiologist, performs appropriate diagnostic exams and studies to ensure safe, high-quality patient care. Key Responsibilities Supervision of IR staff a. Coordinates the work assigned to each area and monitors the work of the staff: develops and assigns daily schedule of assigned personnel and ensures accurate record keeping. b. Observes and assists technical and ancillary staff in the performance of job duties, including providing suggestions for improved work efficiency and quality. c. Performs preparation of control and quality control and assessment tasks (QA/QC). d. Ensures the department delivers quality services, in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards, to support operational excellence. e. Serves as the Clinical Coordinator for IR students. Evaluation and Implementation of Appropriate Care a. Under the direction of the Radiologist and the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS), administers ionizing radiation for the purpose of diagnosis which includes positioning the x-ray beam with respect to the patient, anatomically positioning the patient, selecting exposure factors, and initiating exposure. b. Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes. c. After reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient’s abilities and condition, selects the most appropriate patient care plan. d. Selects appropriate shielding devices and appropriate immobilization devices. e. Adheres to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) safety principle. f. Evaluates lab values prior to administering contrast media. g. Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation. h. Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers (Name and DOB) and verifies procedure requested. Verifies female patient pregnancy status when appropriate. i. Able to recognize significant clinical information and historical facts, from the patient and from the medical record, which may impact the examination. j. Monitors patient and equipment during procedures, accurately documents exam times (start and stop), patient reactions or problems, and reports concerns or issues immediately to supervisor. k. Operates imaging equipment and assists physicians in the detection and localization of patient anatomy during diagnostic and interventional procedures. l. Monitors and records electrocardiogram, ECG, and pressure waveforms during procedures. m. Performs patient data collection, monitoring, and care to include patient preparation, vital signs, basic pulse oximetry, blood pressure and heart rhythm, urinary catheterization, compression, bandaging and distal pulses. n. Documents patient and exam occurrences in the appropriate Imaging software database, to include exam start and complete times. Quality of Care a. The technologist provides evidence-based care so as to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions. b. The technologist practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials. c. The technologist complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and works to reduce hospital acquired infections and other conditions. d. Comply with all regulatory, organizational, and departmental statutes, policies, and procedures. Patient Satisfaction: a. Regularly applies AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) as well as other evidence-based behaviors when taking care of patients. Shows empathy care to patients and family members present. b. Actively helps the department meet the identified Patient Satisfaction goal. c. Demonstrates regular attendance and participation at scheduled department and team meetings. Absences must be communicated as soon as practically possible. d. Ensures all licensure, competencies, training, and education are completed in a timely manner. e. Participates in and encourage continuous process improvement. Required Qualifications · Graduate of Radiologic Technologist program · Current registration and licensure by the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS) · Current registration and licensure by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) · American Heart Association BLS · Demonstrated knowledge and abilities with the following: o diagnostic catheterization procedures on patients with known/suspected peripheral vascular disease o procedures which may include pulmonary involvement, including radial, brachial, and neck approaches o stents, thrombolysis procedures, and peripheral interventions · Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an IR technologist Preferences · Education preferred from an educational institution approved by ARRT, Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT), or the American College of Radiology (ACR) · 2+ years of experience as an Imaging Technologist · Previous experience as supervisor or lead Special Position Requirements Exposure Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues. Other potential hazards: exposure to chemical, biological, and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals. Work Requirements PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK REQUIREMENTS : 1. Able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously. 2. Effective oral and written communication skills, compliant with KHI vision, mission, and values. 3. Able to manage technical business equipment i.e. phone, fax, computer etc. 4. Able to assist with the movement/manipulation of a patient and equipment weighing up to and over 300 lbs. 5. Able to care for patients with infectious diseases. 6. Able to sit, stand, walk, and bend for the duration of the scheduled shift. 7.
